That's funny
Whills, you should bookmark that site.

Hey, thanks, dude.
Just got in. Turns out I'm clear to watch the game, hot dig. But I did bookmark the site for later reference. I appreciate the consideration.
Now if Georgetown/Marquette would get their ass out of the way things would be great. Time for radio.

Got the game on CBS up here
In New York. I take it that's not a nationwide broadcast.
An aside: Ags getting nuked in Norman, Huskers going down in flames in Stillwater. It's fun to be sitting on top, enjoying the bubble carnage from a safe distance.
Counting on Texas doing its job in Lubbock today. Go Horns!
by NYCHorn on Mar 1, 2008 2:29 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
This Aggie meltdown is unbelievable
After 30 minutes, the Ags have scored exactly 18 points. 23% shooting, 0 for 13 from beyond the arc.

Aggies getting SMASCHED!
by Horn Brain on Mar 1, 2008 2:33 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
How will this do them on the bubble?
Please tell me Aggies go to NIT.
by Horn Brain on Mar 1, 2008 2:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
At worst they finish 21-10
Not much of a resume, though. Home win over Texas, blowout loss in Austin. Home win over OU, blowout loss in Norman. A win over Ohio State way back in November, but Ohio State ain't all that. Lost big to K-State, and no way they'll upset Kansas. My guess is they'll have to impress in the tournament or they could be in trouble.
by NYCHorn on Mar 1, 2008 2:40 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Must get at least one more conference win
A&M plays at Baylor and then hosts KU. If they lose both, they're toast. If they win one, they will probably sneak in b/c so many bubble teams from other power conferences are struggling as well: Syracuse, West Virginia, Cal, Oregon, Ohio State, the entire A-10, etc.

Im stuck watching Miami v. Virginia which still
has 10 minutes left because they spent like half an hour determining one of the rims wasn't level before the game. What a joke.

BC up on UNC double-digits
... but they'll probably storm back to win it just like Duke did. Why can't these ACC teams close out their games?

Ags go down 64-37
26% shooting, 2 of 17 beyond the arc. That's got to be some kind of record in the Annals of the Piss Poor.

Mason trey, 4-0. Three minutes in.
Very slow start, lots of TOs.

Wingman in. 15:18.

Foul on AJ
Texas 4-2, under 16 timeout. Listening to Craig Way. Sounds like a sloppy start by both teams.

Hell, haven't heard crowd in background.

as a side note
Tom Crean could have just earned himself a Pepsi endorsement, chugging one after his team fouled a G'Town 3-pt attempt while up 3 with 2.8 left.

Georgetown-Marquette
Jonathan Wallace of Georgetown was fouled beyond the arc with the Hoyas down three. He just sank three free throws in a row to tie the game. Could any Texas player do that? A great object lesson for hitting your FTs.

11-1 Tech run to end the half. Horns need stronger defense and as predicted in the preview, we need Connor and AJ on the floor.

A lot more reserves on the floor, so Tech should have had an edge.
by whills on Mar 1, 2008 3:56 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Don't think so
Dex was horrible in his limited minutes. Lewis hit a three but then took a block on a made bucket. Chap looked totally lost in the 2-3.
Second half will hopefully be a different story with Connor back out there.

I think Rick went into protective mode.

Ah shit
now that Bobby Knight isn't their coach anymore, it's going to be hard for Barnes to own this team at least on the road. They play zone now!
Horrible end to the half. I don't like Barnes decision of going huge with Dexy/Wangmene. Don't they play small. Dexy's guy made a three! Bad matchup idea.

Remember
other than a miracle shot, Tech is undefeated at home. This wasn't supposed to be easy, not to mention that they have a new coach.
Then again, K-State was undefeated at home before we played them.
Still plenty of time. I'm not panicking. It took them a big run just to get a 4 pt lead.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 1, 2008 4:08 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, but we led 36-30 and went to pieces
and lost control. That's been rare lately. Connor on the bench for 14 minutes; that with Mason hurt the D.

Mason takes a charge. Much better D.
by awiggo on Mar 1, 2008 4:12 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I think it's ridiculous that Mason
gets a personal foul for that Tech. I think only certain tech's should also add a personal foul, like a T from a physical act like a shove. Not something he said.
Mason back in the game, draws a charge!

He had a open jumpshot and tried a tough step back three. You can't make up a 7 pt deficit in one possession. One basket at a time.
He took a high % shot and made it a low one.

We can beat anyone with our rotation, but if a number of players go super cold, we don't have backup. Barnes put Lewis in the game!

Wow, 55-43 Tech, under 12
This has gone from bad to worse. We've now missed ten straight threes.
Tech is shooting over 50% from the floor and hitting timely threes.
It is going to take a serious effort now.

5-19 from three 26%
The percentage doesn't bother me as much as the number of threes attempted does.
What happened to all the easy baskets we were getting from running the offense? Where's Gary's inside touches or DJ driving and getting FTs. We have 9 free throws all game.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 1, 2008 4:37 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Tech looks quicker to lose balls
58-47, 8:45 left. Plenty of time left. Horns need to stop fouling, attack the basket, and hit a three or two.

There's still lots of time
but Barnes doesn't even look pissed off. He's just sitting down and observing his project. Maybe he knows something we don't.
But seriously, if you want Texas to be in the South regional, WE HAVE TO LOSE GAMES. We can't be a #1 seed.

We have to get a 1 seed
if we win out. That would be a flat out crime given our resume.
But the problem is will the committee have the flexibility to put us in the South as a 1 seed?
But as a 2 seed, there's no way we're NOT in the South.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 1, 2008 4:44 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

Ok, 58-50 under 8
Three by AJ. Finally. Horns look better on D as well. If we can get a couple of more stops and keep attacking the basket, we can get back in this.

So far Tech has executed as necessary. But the end game requires control and athleticism - and maintaining some intensity. This doesn't favor Tech, but, then, Texas has to execute the come back, too.

I have a feeling he saw this coming. The new coach and all for Tech completely changes how we play them. It'll take a couple of games to adjust to the new Tech.

Key stats of the game
Texas - FIVE assists all game. DJ with 31 pts but just 2 assists.
That means our offensive execution was putrid. We were forcing horrible shots. On a day where we couldn't play D, we have to play an efficient offense, and it was nothing but sloppy today.
9-27 from three. % ended up being better because of our threes at the end. There's no reason why this team should be jacking up 20+ threes. Pathetic.
Tech gets 32 of their 83 points from the foul line. They outscore us by 23 at the line. Can we stop fouling please? I mean what the hell. Defense was a disappointment. Connor and Wingman's defense has been so great recently but not so much today.
Texas gets called for 32 fouls. I mean wow... Rick Barnes is rolling over his grave. We forgot how to play D. Foul trouble is killing us. We lost James at the end, forcing us to put Lewis in the game. Connor gets in foul trouble. STOP FOULING PLEASE K THX.
Freshman mistake - Johnson fouling when all we needed was a defensive stop. You don't just give them points. And allowing Voskuil to keep getting the inbounds pass was poor execution.
Now with all that said, this locks up a 2 seed in the South unless everyone ahead of us keeps losing later on. I'm not really disappointed by the loss... sorry, I just really want to be in the South regardless of seed.
Hopefully Johnson's injury isn't serious.
I give Texas credit for fighting at the end.

The loss isn't on JD
He didn't put us 14 down with under 4 to play. I agree with the comment that we have much to learn from this, all to the good as we approach tournament season. I thought we were going to go down by double digits. Heroic, champion effort to fight back to within two in the closing minutes, so credit to the team for that. The free throws have finally bitten us in the ass. This is a downer, given the high we have been on. But we finish out at home, and those games won't be cakewalks. That's good, too. The goal now is to end the season 26-5, take the Big 12 title and head for the Dance.
by NYCHorn on Mar 1, 2008 5:37 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Btw that stupid technical on Mason
looks a lot bigger now. Didn't even realize AJ fouled out at the end. Again, this is what happens when you foul instead of trying to play defense. That's why JD was stuck trying to be the hero at the end.
And I don't understand why Barnes decided to play Pittman at all today. It's obvious Tech this is not the type of team for him to play. Once he got in the game, that started the huge run for Tech before the end of the half, and they went from there.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 1, 2008 5:48 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Connor, James, Mason had fouls.
He used Wingman and Chappy, too, in that period. That's the only logic I can think of, and now I can't place the fouls with the time exactly. But you do pinpoint the time when the Horns lost control of the game, never to regain it.
That is the real difference in this game and what occurred in the February win streak. We lost control.
