Lady Horns in the Big 12 Tourney

Texas opened up Big 12 Tourney play as the 7th seed taking on 10th seed Texas Tech.
Texassports.com Story

They picked up right where they left out last Wednesday winning by 12.  In other news, 5th seeded OU lost to 12th seeded Missouri.  The first time a 12 seed has ever won a game in the Big 12 tourney.

Star-divide

In Game 2, Texas takes down Baylor 76-61 after being down 16 at the half.  Texas held Baylor to just 6 field goals in the second half!  Anytime Coach Cajun Meth Queen (Mulkey) loses it's a good day in my book!

Next up, we get the winner of Kansas and Oklahoma State Thursday night.

how are Texas' tourney chances now?

How much does this win help?  Do they still need to beat Baylor?  How far in the Big 12 tourney do they need to go to get in the NCAA?

Most people say

.. that we are already in. Here is the bracketology.

Most people I talked to say we are in. Expect someone here (maybe TempestHorn) who said 7-9 wouldn't cut it.

Tourney chances

I did originally say 7-9 would not cut it, but I since learned two teams in Big 12 history have made it in the tourney with 7-9 records.  I also did not think in our 7 wins one would be a win over OU in Norman.  However, yesterday that win got somewhat tainted by last place Missouri beating OU.

I think we are a strong bubble team and even if we lose to Baylor we will probably get in.  However, we need to remove as much doubt as possible and a second win over Baylor will help do that.

By the way, looking at bracketology on ESPN and assuming we'll get in because Creme says so is not wise.  Last year he had us in the tourney right up until selection Sunday and we did not make it.

They're hitting their stride

It's nice to see the team operating on all cylinders.  If the starting 5 can keep the leading the team like they have been, with the bench help from Nash and Rentschler, they should do well in the Big 12 tourney.  Looking at Creme's bracketology, it bothers me that they'd meet UNC in the second round.  I guess making the tourney is a huge step after two years out, but I'd like to see them with a little better draw and give them a chance to shine on the national stage.

and the upsets continue.....
#8 Iowa State takes out #1 Kansas State by one point in overtime.  This upset is the first time a #1 seed failed to win a game in the Big 12 tournament.

Not sure what this does for our NCAA tourney chances, we have an identical Big 12 regular season record as ISU. We had the tiebreaker over them.   We may have to pull for 8 teams from the Big 12 to get in.

wow

I wrote them off when I left work, was like 40-20, now it's the final minute and not close.  Great job.

OSU game

Hopefully losing another really close game to a ranked opponent in the semis of the Big 12 tourney won't hurt us (it shouldn't).  And beating Baylor 2 out of 3 times is a bonus.  We'll be watching the selections on Monday night and hoping for a good draw!  Hook 'Em

Our tourney appearance....
It can only help us knocking off Baylor and taking OSU down to the wire.

At the OSU press conference today their coach was asked about Andrea Riley popping one of our players in the head with a forearm during a loose ball tussle.  I am hoping the Big 12 steps up and suspends her for the championship game.  With all the off ball stuff OSU had going on last night, I for once will be cheering for Texas A&M to paste them good.
