Donald Sloan's mother dies
You ever watch a game, and wonder what the hell is wrong with one of the players on your team? You find yourself getting frustrated, b/c you know the player isn't performing up to his usual standards, and it starts to make you angry?

Then you find out after the game that the player in question performed under the most trying of circumstances, and ends up having a helluva game, especially given the circumstances.
This is what happened to me Thursday night.
Donald Sloan's mother died in the early morning Thursday, and then he went out and almost put up a triple-double in the win against Iowa State, with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists.
His situation wasn't announced until after the game.
I watched Sloan play during his HS years at Seagoville, so it is tough for me to watch him struggle on the court in Big 12 play, b/c I know how terrific a player he can be.
Given the circumstances, Sloan's performance was phenomenal. I'm not sure I would even want to play any game a few hours after my mother died.
Kinda puts things in perspective.

Best Wishes
I don't know any of the circumstances (terminal illness, unexpected tragedy, etc.), but that is a young age to lose one's mother.
Best wishes to the Sloan family in this difficult.

details are sketchy
But if they want to keep it private, that's their right.
Apparently, Sloan's mom struggled with drug use for much of her life, and he was mainly raised by his aunt.
She called him on Wednesday for him to come home, and he was by her side when she died.
It's all just very, very sad.

Good BONer Vibes
to Sloan and family. Perhaps he can gain inner-strength from this and excel in her honor. He certainly seemed to do that last night.

Poor kid
Took a lot of guts to follow through and play. I wish him, and his family, the best.
