more impressed with the kids form McNeese State
CB Marcus Brown (6-1 ¼, 201): Ran the 40 in 4.53 (against the wind) and 4.35 (with wind), had a 43 ½-inch vertical jump, 11-foot, 6-inch long jump, 4.18 short shuttle, 7.09 cone drills, 7 reps in the bench press, and ran position drills.
DE/OLB Bryan Smith (6-2 7/8, 240): Ran the 40 in 4.78 (against the wind) and 4.54 (with the wind), had a 36 ½-inch vertical jump, 9-foot, 9-inch long jump, 4.31 short shuttle, 7.20 cone drill. A defensive end in college, he looked good here in LB position drills.
Also, Billy Pittman ran two 4.7s
Is he injured or something?

Who's Billy Pittman?
I haven't seen that dude in like a year or 2.

Pittman
From what I've seen, not injured, just not fast. He only saw the field in 4 games this past season, and his wheels were probably a big reason why. The fact he even got a combine invite a month ago is actually pretty impressive.
I'll agree, the fact that McNeese State can get those kind of athletes to play in Lake Charles is impressive. Maybe one day Tulane can get a few.

Discrepancies
Both the Statesman and Inside Texas are reporting faster times on several players than the site listed in the diary. The Statesman is reporting that Pittman ran a 4.56 today. Limas Sweed was also reported to run a faster time by the Statesman.

Foster!
I heard on espn radio he ran a 4.28!! Is that for real? He has to get drafted now, or at least get some good looks. He impressed me this year. He is a little undersized though.

a little undersized would be an understatement
He topped out at a whopping 5'7'' today. Not exactly prototypical size for a DB, but maybe he could get signed somewhere on the basis of his speed. Does he have any KR/PR experience?

KELSON
41.5 in. vertical and 4.45 40 time has got to be getting him some looks

We cost this kid millions of dollars
Switching him back and forth between LB and Safety was the biggest "Duh!" ever. The guy was a freak, an absolute freak, and we utterly wasted him. You put him in at LB, he nearly picks off Matt Leinart covering Reggie Bush. You put him in for a few plays at safety this year, he has... what? Like 2 sacks and 2 fumbles forced on like 20 plays? Gimme a break! I wonder why he didn't get the "has shed a lot of blood for this program" treatment when you've got 4.88 Derry lumbering around in the backfield with Killebrew who thinks the play starts after the whistle. If we had kept Kelson at LB we'd have at least had one semi-capable guy who would cause at least one problem for the offense per play.
This is an example, IMO, of someone who is too nice, and too much of a team player for his own good. He came to Texas and did everything the coaches asked, and he ends up with basically zero experience in four full years. Meanwhile, you've got John Chiles, who the coaches desperately want to turn into anything but a QB (exaggeration), but who refuses to play any other position, so he gets to be the star of the freaking Holiday Bowl and will play the new Tim Tebow position in our offense next year. Freaking sad. [/rage for Kelson]
On another note, I guess we figured out why Foster was such a playmaker. When you're that fast, you can cover a lot more ground, regardless of how much you screwed up the beginning of the play. If speed can make a 5' 7" guy make plays like that, imagine what Kelson could have done with four years at one position.

Yeah, it really was a waste.
Kelson was the #1 safety in his recruiting class and was the #4 recruit overall, which is completely unheard of for safeties. He had a great 2005 Rose Bowl but the rest of his college career was wasted. I still think he's a potential NFL standout/occasional pro bowler. I wish Dallas would replace Roy Williams with him.

+1
I totally agree with you. He seems like a nice guy who is a total team player. I always thought that he was most effective at LB. Too bad that he got the shaft like he did. I have got to think that he'll make an NFL roster somewhere.
