Random Thoughts:

  • Georgetown by far the biggest loser of the weekend over UConn and Duke.  Senior laden team, coupled with large lead blown has to be devastating.
  • UNC is filthy rich with talent. I just wonder if Ol' Boy Roy can actually coach them.  Their offense consists of running down the floor and jacking the first open look.  Great if it's going in (it often does), but when it's not, I wonder what he has planned, if anything.
  • Memphis loves to foul.  I really think Izzo & Co. will have Dozier and Dorsey watching a lot of their game from the bench. Whether or not that's enough remains to be seen, as Rose and CDR are a lot to overcome.
  • Good showing for Big 12?  I don't know what to say, and I'm leaning towards no. Baylor was not even competitive.  Scrappy, quality wins by KSU, OU, and Agros all cancelled out 2 days later. KSU and OU just blown off the court, and Agros let UCLA off the hook. Foul or no foul on final play, it shouldn't have come down to that.  The Agros choked away what would have been a program defining win for Coach Turd.
  • Somebody knock UCLA out! The champ is cut, his right eye is swollen.... That's 3 should be L's in the past 3 weeks.  UCLA fans will tell you that's the championship will not to lose.  I think they are just waiting to get picked off.
  • Kansas - methodical
  • Games I can't wait to watch: Horns/Stanford, Louisville/Tennessee, Memphis/MSU.  I'll take Texas, Lousiville, and Memphis (please refer to my USC over KSU thoughts as a disclaimer).
  • Dick of the 1st weekend: the Stanford head coach. Getting chucked in the tournament is embarassing enough. But add his post game attitude/comments and I don't know how a guy like that keeps good stead w/ the Stanford AD.
  • PB - you're absolutely right about the anticipation for the game being just as fun.  Only one team walks away from this as the Winner, and the best team often doesn't win. We're being treated to a great ride by RB and the Horns so let's enjoy it.

Other:

Sam Bradford sighting at Niketown in NYC wid his mommy last Thursday. Flashed him the Horns, and he gave this really goofy laugh and gave me the Horns down back after brief delay where you could actually see him pause while his brain worked to figure out what to do. I don't think he's the coldest beer in the fridge.

Your thoughts on any of the above?

you obviously didn't watch the A&M-UCLA game

the foul at the end of the game was only part of the story

unless you believe Kevin Love is the greatest defensive force ever seen in college basketball

Bitter Beergut!

Just don't misdirect your hostility.  The stars could not have been more aligned for you. Shipp, Westbrook were MIA and Mbah a Moute was practically wearing a maroon jersey (8 turnovers).  For some reason, Turd went away from pounding it away inside and when he did, your big men acted like they'd never seen a double team before.  The game was there for the taking except for the near 10 minute scoring drought starting at the 11 minute mark. That is a choke, friend-o.  Pooooor Aggies.

A&M UCLA

As much as I hate to agree with beergut, (the guy who said A&M was better then Texas and that we'd excede expectations beating stanford) he is 100% right about Kevin Love.  I'm pretty sure Kevin Love had zero blocks in that game despite credit for 7.  A lot of Hacks though.  The refs were just giving it to him.  To be fair a lot were close to the ball, and he just hit the wrist.  But every call went his way on what were mostly fouls.  Me and my friend (UT fans both) were making cracks like "only 30 fouls to go until UCLA is in the penalty."  Still A&M didn't help themselves.

I disagree

Unless I'm forgetting something outrageous, I thought the refs were fine.  In real time, the last play looked pretty clean. It took still pictures later to cast doubt on that.  I was even rooting for the Aggies to make the Big 12 look better.
My point is, the Aggies could easily not have been in that position at the end of the game had they not collectively disappeared, and the refs did not make them score 5 points in the last last 9:32.

Interested in UNC-WSU as well

Wondering if WSU, playing as well as they are, can make a dent in the UNC machine. Now that we are down to 16, East and South look like toughest regions to me.  Agree that UCLA could be living on borrowed time.  But is WKU the team to bring them down?  Hope you are right about Memphis over MSU, as I would rather not face the Spartans and Skinhead Neitzel again. Finally, for all the bashing we gave Vitale over his low-balling Texas in the ESPN Power 16, I just noticed he has us in his Final Four!

Gotta be kidding me
UNC is filthy rich with talent. I just wonder if Ol' Boy Roy can actually coach them.  Their offense consists of running down the floor and jacking the first open look.  Great if it's going in (it often does), but when it's not, I wonder what he has planned, if anything.

This has to be a joke, Roy Williams can't coach?

Roy

Draws unbelievable talent to a historic program.  I just haven't seen a whole of "X's and O's" set plays.  Maybe they are there, but from the 3 games I saw them play (Duke #2, and 2 tourney games), they beat they're opponent down the floor for easy scores or outjump them for second chance points.

you're so close

Do you think that player's beating their opponent down the floor is just natural? You don't think it has anything to do with the secondary break that the Dean Smith pipeline of coaches have run forever? By the time the ball falls through the net on a made shot, UNC is at half court. Getting your players to fill lanes and run the court is not an easy task. It is just as much of an offense and X's and O's oriented as any half-court set. Don't think that just b/c UNC is athletic, that Roy doesn't put those guys into position to win.
What I gather from your comment is that any coach could do what Roy does at UNC, and Matt Doherty was a prime example that this was not the case, even with 3 McDonald's All-Americans (May, McCants, and Felton).
I have to believe that Roy deserves more credit than this. He has won 3 national coach of the year awards, and has already been inducted into the basketball hall of fame.

There is so much more to argue, but I will stop there.

You're right

As usual, a well thought out argument trumps off the cuff opinion.  I do find it interesting that Roy has never won a championship with "his own" players. Knocking on wood now so this won't be the year.

Being the blessed person that I am

to live in Oklahoma (not). I have had the occasion to run into Bradford a couple of times in Walmart.  Both times, I was decked out in my LONGHORN gear and flashed him horns.. He grinned kinda goofily and looked off into space.  I agree about the coldest beer comment (actually more like a flat Mr. Pibb).. The poor boy also needs to get some clearasil.  Nothing feels better than to drive up to Norman and see another car with Longhorn tags or stickers.. :) God I hate the sooners!

I'm gonna adopt me a basketball player.. J-Mase be his name... OU SUCKS!!
