Orange-White Game
I've never been to an Orange-White Game before. How does this work? I plan on trying to get to the game this Saturday. Are there tickets? Or is it just a first come first serve basis? Also, who will be going from here? Thanks.

Hoops Fever
I've been so engrossed in the hoops team that I've momentarily paused from my football obsession, but your Saturday schedule of events is as follows:
2008 Spring Schedule
10 a.m. – Pre-scrimmage carnival (Lot 70, South of Mike A. Myers Stadium)
10:30-11:30 a.m. – Aunty E concert (Lot 70, South of Mike A. Myers Stadium)
11:30 a.m. – Noon – Aunty E autograph session (Same location)
Noon – Kickoff of UT spring scrimmage (DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium)
No tickets are required for anything. It's all free. Just show up whenever you like. If you've got kids, the pre-scrimmage stuff can be a fun event for them. If not, showing up at noon for the football is recommended.

Last year there were nearly 40,000
according to the largest estimate I saw. I thought it was at least 30,000+. There seemed like there were more people than the year before. Seats are easy to find and they usually hand out a program sheet with player's numbers down at the entrances, so look for that.
You could sit on either side of the stadium last year. Most of the later "set" scrimmage action seemed to be on the south end (perhaps due to the construction in the north end zone last year).
The standard scrimmage format is usually:
- 20-25 plays for #1 offense vs. #2 D
- 20-25 plays for #2 offense vs. #1 D
(each starting from their own 30-35; if they fail make a first down, go back to starting point.)
- Sometimes a second set of 10-15 plays and/or goal line situations from the opponent 25.
- A live quarter, with kick-offs and punts.
In addition, there is a unique scoring system giving the defense credit (like for turnovers, fumbles and INTs not for TDs) and for sacks. Boom Mofo may have points for big hits; that wouldn't surprise me at all. I'd give a point for every Boom Mofo I hear.
Instead of #1s vs. #2s, Texas usually creates two teams, one Orange, one White, and keeps a running score through out. Special team players wore tape on their helmets last year.
There are always variations for one reason or another to keep things interesting. Trying to figure out exactly what they're doing is part of the process. If you have been to HS scrimmages, you'll find it somewhat similar. At least the Horns wear the proper jersey numbers. The QBs will often have a different color vests over their jersey; part of that is quick ID for the coaches, but it's also for no hitting the QB. This year should be different.
Seeing how they have had non-public scrimmages of up to 125 plays with totally live hitting on everyone, this year could feature some truly great hits (something I didn't seem much in the last couple of years; they just seemed a little rusty).
This year may have more positions up for grabs than anytime since 2005.

I heard a comment by
someone during the baseball game that they're thinking about getting together 2 individual teams of offense and defense and actually playing a game with a regular game scoring system. They said this was just an idea and not set in stone by any means. I think it would be cool, though.

That would be cool.
They do change things up ever so often.
It's a coaches show, no doubt, but with crowds getting so large, there could be a movement to make it more game-like.

Televised?
Any chance the Orange/White game will be broadcast, say on TexasSportsTV or anywhere?

Usually Broadcost on Fox SW 643 - Direct TV
Really bad announcers though.

1s vs. 1s this year
I think Mack said that the 1s will scrimmage against the 1s for a while this year.

last year
(if I remember correctly) Colt saw limited snaps in order to get a better assessment of the backups. I wonder if all the talk of every position being up for grabs will translate into more time by all four qbs.
