Durant may have to wear an Oklahoma jersey

with all the excitement of NCAA tourney and all the ex-horns in the NBA who are making contributions to their respective teams,  seatle supersonics are looking for a new home and ownership.  from what i've read on several sites is that Oklahoma city is the front runner to take over the team. I personally have no desire to see KD in anything affiliated with oklahoma.  I know my hatred is kinda strong for a state that i know nothing about except for the fact that their school is our biggest out of state rivalry and that because i have burnt orange running through my veins that all i know is that i am supposed to hate oklahoma.  So am i the only one who is saddened by one of our own may have to bear the colors of an Oklahoma franchise. and if so, what about the merchandise? would you turn your back to our beloved son just because you wouldn't be caught dead cheering and rooting for anything Oklahoma related. Just want to know how you guys feel?

Buy your jersey's now

Well I think as far as the merchandise goes, throw back is in style, so just buy a Seattle Supersonics jersey while you can.  You will forever be able to tell people that it is a throw back once they are in Oklahoma.

Also, I would be curious to know what you guys here at the BON would call the basketball team from Oklahoma, they will need a new name.

This thread

Is about to get really entertaining. Let's kick it off with:

the Oklahoma City Dust Eaters

I would totally read the Washington Post every single day if I cared at all about helping Dan Steinberg keep his job.

Some ideas

Land Thieves (or just Thieves, since they also stole a basketball team)
Doublewides
Dust Fields
No Sox (perhaps better for a baseball team)

Worse for Okiehomans

Just imagine what it will be like for people who will be sitting in the crowd during home games.  They will be rooting for an ex-Horn.

I've never had a problem with any pro team because of the state they reside in.  I root for local teams, but follow other teams because of certain players.  For example, Durant with Seattle or Vince with Tennessee.  I will always consider the Titans as the old Oilers.  In that respect, they will always be one of my favorite NFL teams (unless they trade VY of course).

On another note, I highly doubt that team would be in Oklahoma very long if it were to happen.  I'm surprised the league office is even considering giving the approval to move a team to that hellhole.

The team is not for sale

The team is not for sale but the owner wants to move the franchise and retain ownership.  He said he's willing to leave the Sonics name and records in Seattle.  That would basically allow another group to resurrect the Sonics a la the Cleveland Browns.  An OKC-based NBA team would seem like a new team.  Just like all the movement in the NHL (Phx Coyotes).

To answer the question I rarely wear profession sports teams' gear.  I stick the Longhorn gear, especially at my gym, in Ohio.

I just hope the OKC NBA doesn't wear crimson.

It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.

I live in dreaded Okieland

and would love to be able to see KD play all the time.  It isnt so much the state that is so bad.. IT'S OU!!! The Sonics (or whatever new name they come up with) will be a hell of a lot closer to watch play than up in Seattle.  As far as a new name.. How 'bout "we are building our franchise around a Texas Longhorn!!"

I'm gonna adopt me a basketball player.. J-Mase be his name... OU SUCKS!!

Bad news for OU

If KD and his teammates start getting paid to play a sport in Oklahoma, all of the Sooner players are inevitably going to demand raises.

Also, while I like the name "No Sox", it might be more fitting for the team to be called the "OKC No Teeth" instead...

So take that.

Oklahoma Trailer Hitches

The state has a built-in trailer hitch, people!  18th century surveyors clearly had a sense of humor similar to ours.  Either that or the shape of the state drew a certain type of person there.  It's a conundrum.  The Chicken or the Redneck Hillbilly?  I guess we'll never know.
