Does Danny Green
remind anyone else of Shawn Marion with the way he shoots?

X-Men/Mountaineers to OT
can't believe he missed that FT

OT
One pet peeve - if I'm Xavier, want to make sure there's 2 seconds for a put back on that final shot. Took a touch too long.
To overtime we go! Exciting stuff...
by Peter Bean on Mar 27, 2008 8:25 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
O/U on this game is 136.6
OT is a blessing for the over bettors
by Beergut on Mar 27, 2008 8:28 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I wonder if Vegas
takes OT into consideration with the O/U? I would like to see a mathematical formula about if it's more statistically advantageous to bet the over because, for one, of the possibility of OT.
Hmm.
Whatever, back to the game.
by hornbone on Mar 27, 2008 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes, they take it into consideration
if you hit your over in OT, you win your bet
I would bet it isn't advantageous to bet the over for that reason, though.
I don't think that many games end up in OT.
by Beergut on Mar 27, 2008 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, Vegas is smart
I'm just curious which hits more: the over or the under. It's probably almost exactly even.

the game that made me wish I was in Vegas to
rape and pillage the sportsbooks was UNC-Wazzu
UNC was favored by only 8.5; that is STEALING money.
UNC wins by 19

Solid win for the A-10
After Temple and St. Jo's lost without much of a fight, this is a very solid win for the conference.

TN
Whoever does the lawntry at TN need to learn how to use cold when watching those headbands...

this just in: TN still only made 3 shots

Are you OK with this?
The bball court in Reliant will be elevated a bit. The players have to take a couple of stairs to get on the court.

Some players said they're reluctant to save the ball out of bounds now, but there is a cushion outside of the court to land on. It looks like the out of bounds line is now the edge of the court, so if the ball bounces on the edge, it will ricochet out of bounds. Also, a player could step on the corner and hurt his ankle.
It does look pretty neat, and I will say that Vanderbilt and Minnesota's courts are similar to this, so it's not unprecedented.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 27, 2008 10:08 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
i've seen some other pics
and theres a pretty big difference between the out of bounds line and where the court drops off. you can kinda see it in your second pic. the shiny black is still the court and raised and after that theres still carpeting.
once the players get up there, i dont think they'll know theyre raised.

WKU
WKU is mounting a pretty fierce comeback against UCLA. UCLA has turned the ball over like 11 or 12 times in the second half.

Collison gone
Collison just fouled out w/ 6 min left.
by dtc on Mar 27, 2008 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
They are within 4 with 5:30 left
Collison is out, he fouled out with about 6 min lerft
by blazzinken on Mar 27, 2008 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know it's just one game
But at least for today, I kind of laugh at those who'd take Collison over Augustin. He ends up with more fouls than points. With 5:39 left in the game, he's already gone. Not exactly helping your team by fouling a jump shooter (a three nonetheless) and then getting disqualified for the rest of the game. Where's the discipline?
Now if only Westbrook can foul out too...
If WKU wins, Aggies have to be kicking themselves. They could've advanced to the Elite Eight just by beating WKU. They'd be a pretty good matchup against Wisconsin if they beat UNC too.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 27, 2008 11:18 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
nvmd
A&M would be playing Xavier. Xavier would win that one so never mind. Still, Elite Eight is pretty good given what happened.

Let me state again,
how much I hate calling timeout after YOUR team scores.
Howland does this all the time. I just don't get it.
by awiggo on Mar 27, 2008 11:20 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
It is a bit odd
but I've seen basically everyone do it, at least at the end of game situations (mainly the team that is making the comeback).
This is a little different though. But since Howland is a defensive coach, I guess I'm not surprised that he wants to call a timeout to make a defensive strategy instead of a TO to run an offensive play.
by goingforthecorner on Mar 27, 2008 11:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Some teams
do call timeout after they score, but as you mention, it is usually when they are behind and the coach uses the break to set up a press.
Howland does it when he's ahead and, I guess, to set up his D.
I don't understand.
by awiggo on Mar 27, 2008 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It makes sense
when you are down, because you stop the clock and can better contest the inbounds, but when you are winning it make no sense unless you are subbing players for offense/defense.

So Bruce Webber's team is gone
Anyone think he bolts to Indiana?
by goingforthecorner on Mar 27, 2008 11:25 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Bruce Weber of Illinois to Indiana?
Not if the Hoosiers ever want to win again. I am not a fan. He can't recruit at all.
by awiggo on Mar 27, 2008 11:29 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
LOL sorry I meant Bruce Pearl
by goingforthecorner on Mar 27, 2008 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Still no
Dick Bennett of Washington State will get a solid look from the Hoosiers.
by awiggo on Mar 27, 2008 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think you mean Tony Bennett
He took over when his dad (Dick) retired a couple of years ago. I've also heard a lot of noise surrounding Xavier coach Sean Miller and IU.

How did Western Kentucky...
mount that first come back? UCLA turnovers and threes? Wouldn't mind seeing them pull off the upset here.

not going to happen

Collison got in foul trouble
and the Bruins got sloppy with the ball. Not having a good back-up PG is really going to hurt UCLA if Collison gets in fould trouble against any of the teams they will face from here on.
by joshrid on Mar 28, 2008 12:19 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Holy crap
that was scary. If UCLA plays like this against Xavier, they can kiss the final four goodbye. I know they say the motto is "Survive and advance," but this is a little too much.
At least no one can say these refs tried to win the game for UCLA.

the 2nd half was scary
the first half was a perfect example of what UCLA can do defensively when focused.
by ucladj89 on Mar 28, 2008 12:49 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
For sure
It looked like the press really got to them, and then with the ticky-tack calls, probably made it harder for them to be aggressive on defense in the 2nd half.
The first half was exactly what we have been seeing all year from the defense. WKU's coach is pretty good and figured out a way to disrupt our offense in the 2nd half. I still can't believe UCLA gave up 58 points in a half!
I don't think UCLA has a problem with the press, I think it has been awhile since they faced a press, and supposedly the way WKU played their press it was different than usual. Hopefully Collison can show the haters how good he really is against Xavier.

Who are these Collison haters
you speak of?
by Wells on Mar 28, 2008 9:34 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ok, it was hyperbole
not necessarily "haters," but like the person above who said that even though it was one game, he would laugh at anyone who would take Collison over Augustin. It was just one game...judging someone on one of their worst games (especially when in foul trouble and unable to be as defensively aggressive as usual) is as irresponsible as judging someone on their best game.
So maybe not a "hater," but how about "quickly dismissive?" :)

UCLA JIHAD!

Are you taking the role of the Mongol hordes?
I've never been called out as a jihadist warrior for UCLA, thanks, I guess?
Actually, the only reason I chime in here is becasue your site puts up some interesting takes and your readership seems open to discussion.
Now watch what you write or I shall cut off your fingers, you son of a poxed dog:-)

I heard he drew a cartoon of Collison
he must be punished.
by Wells on Mar 28, 2008 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The figure of Collison
should never be put to paper!
However, I don't want to anger the Longhorn fans, as apparently someone on Bruinsnation has said that Texas and Notre Dame bloggers may be planning an attack of Ben Howland, and I don't want anything to happen to him!

Collison is good
but he's no D.J. Augustin, and nothing he does against Xavier will prove otherwise.
MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

At this level
every team is going to make a run at you. Look at the Texas-Miami game.
I thought UCLA did well in fending off the run without Collison, except for the first play after he fouled out.
