Great expectations?

Some time ago, there was a poll on BON asking what would make us happy. Would Rick Barnes have to take his team all the way to a national championship for this season to be considered a success? Or would a win or two in the tourney be enough?

I'm interested to see how the BON community's feelings have changes - or perhaps have not - since that prior poll. How do you feel now? What does Rick have to deliver to avoid "Coach February"-type sentiments?

I'm already happy - Sweet 16, baby!

This team will be underachieving if they don't make it to the Elite Eight.

Only a trip to the Final Four down I-35 is acceptable at this point.

If I'm being completely honest...

Final 4 or bust.  Texas is set up too perfectly.  I'm happy they are where they are, but it will be a disappointment if they don't make it to the final 4.  I will say, though, that there are some serious demons to slay on the path.  Big team (who we don't typically fare well against) and either highly athletic or Mich St. (who we already lost to this year).  Going to be a rough road to get there.

Eh...

I would have been disappointed had we not made it to the sweet 16.  I mean really disappointed.

Id still be disappointed if we didn't make it past Stanford, but not nearly as much.

From here on out, theres nothing but quality teams.

Id be elated to make it to the final four and beyond.  But I only would have considered it a failure not to get to Houston.

Ditto
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.

I'm right there with you

I'm happy now ... but my expectations have risen somewhat, thanks to the February stretch of wins.

I still don't think this team has played its best game. A couple of great halves, but not a total game.

I refused to name my children Vince, Kevin or Major ... despite my secret desire to do so.

My expectation remains the same.

I expect to be in the elite 8 and will be content to do so, I will be disappointed if we do not make the elite 8, I will only be happy if we make the final 4.

I would love to see

a rematch between the Horns and KU in the Championship.. I want to see this team play a full game-straight on-- I believe that when each player on this team comes to play, we are unbeatable.  We can win games if DJ is off, if AJ is off, if we are missing GJ, they make up for each other.  Just think of the possibilities when the entire team shows up to play... gives me chills.  As far as tomorrow, Lopez trees or not, we can handle them.. we have the best shooting guards and the best point guard, not to mention my boy Mason who will be a big factor,  Atch and Damo will pull up big numbers on the boards and blocks.  How many hours till tipoff???

I'm gonna adopt me a basketball player.. J-Mase be his name... OU SUCKS!!

Tougher competition - moving on to SA

I can appreciate that the competition is tougher now as some are saying, but seeing as how we are in the exact position we wanted to be in (#2 South seed that ends up in Houston for the Sweet 16/Elite 8 games), and we have that "home court advantage", shouldn't we expect them to move on to the FF in SA?

Other than San Antonio, this is as close as you can get to playing at home in the NCAAs.  We beat, arguably, the best team in the nation at home (Kansas).  Not to mention the other good teams we beat on the road.  Our boys haven't had a home court advantage type game since the OSU game that clinched the shared title.  People have been talking about the advantage we have by playing in Houston, but I still think it is understated.

I not only think we win these next two games, but I think we will have so much confidence from the crowd support in the Stanford game, that we ride high into the Elite 8 game with a great deal of confidence and beat the winner of the Memphis/MSU game by double digits.

I like our chances

And I think we have a great shot.

But its difficult for me to expect to win two in a row with such stiff competition in the field.

I think if we play our best, we can beat anyone.  Whether we play our best, or prevent the team from playing their best, that I dont know.  It makes it hard for me to expect to win, because if we dont bring our A game from here on out, we will lose.

No Doubt

I'm probably being overly optimistic and expecting the best possible scenario with what I said before.  In comparing them to the '03 team and seeing them as a little better overall, I can't help but think they are destined for the Final Four.

The 2005 Football Run

Made me appreciate that to reach the pinnacle, takes a bunch of factors.  And one is luck.

And its even harder to win it all in basketball than it is in football. Hell only 5 schools have won it more than twice.

I dont want to sound like too much of a downer, again, I think we can beat anyone, and Im excited as hell to get out of work, and drive down to H-town and watch the horns tomorrow!!!
