CA Private vs Public school debate

I thought I'd share some of the happenings going on out West.

As most of you may know, in California the public schools compete directly with the private schools in all sports.

Today, the LA Times has two articles about a new proposal that recommends a seperate play-off system for public and private schools.  The two articles, to me, seem a bit slanted in favor of the private schools and make it sound like the public schools are whining because they can't compete for championships.  While public school say that private schools have none of the restrictions, boundary issues, or some of the financial concerns that public schools have in California. And without the financial restrictions private school are able to build better facilities, hire better coaching, trainers etc creating a clear disadvantage.

While I know that kids will move to other districts or schools in Texas, the private schools here, in California, seem to really have taken it to a new level.

Having been born and raised in Austin, I had a laugh at comment "players want to play in front of bigger crowds".  Most of the bigger schools around here, Ventura County anyway, never seem to have that big of crowds and would barely fill the old Veterans Field at McCallum.
