Who's In, Who's Out?
ESPN is maintaining the current list of players who have declared for the 2008 NBA Draft. The Lopez twins (no surprise) joined the list yesterday. Others who have already announced:
Derrick Caracter, F, Louisville
Richard Hendrix, F, Alabama
J.J. Hickson, F, North Carolina State
JaVale McGee, F/C, Nevada
Robert Vaden, G, Alabama-Birmingham
Others of interest to BON'ers who appear to be leaning towards tossing their names in:
DeAndre Jordan, C, Texas A&M
Derrick Rose, PG, Memphis
Chris Douglas-Roberts, F, Memphis
Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas
Bill Walker, G/F, Kansas State
Michael Beasley, F, Kansas State
Others ESPN calls "50-50":
D.J. Augustin, PG, Texas
Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
Mario Chalmers, PG, Kansas
Sherron Collins, PG, Kansas
Blake Griffin, F, Oklahoma

There was an article in the DMN
where Damion was quoted as looking forward to next season and talked about "us being an elite team"
Take it for what it's worth.LINK

This is bigger than KD
Last year, I never really thought there was much chance of KD staying. Sure, maybe I tricked myself into hoping. But let's face it - he was too hot of an NBA commodity to stay.
In years past, there have been a couple of Rick's kids who left early and surprised me: Gibson and P.J. Tucker. In both cases, I thought they would benefit from more time at Texas. In one case, I was definitely right (Tucker).
In this case, I'm really, really, really hoping that D.J. stays - despite what he's already told KD. (Interview in December, Durant said DJ already made the decision to leave.) Couple of reasons:
- DJ would improve. He got a little exposed against Memphis. Yes, he's already amazing. But he needs some more work to handle the bigger guards. He's got to make up for his smaller size with incredible skill.
- If DJ stays, James will stay.
- With KD, yes, the team would have been great. But last year, I really couldn't "see" how great. WOW, imagine returning this year's starting five. We KNOW what they can do ... and with a stronger bench. Just WOW.
Here's hoping ...

If this team stays...
I may be even more excited about this prospect than the final 4 team returning everyone.
The top 9 players coming back to a big 12 winning, elite eight team is a nice thought.
A man can dream.

Chip Brown has a good analysis of coming year
Including this assessment from Jay Bilas, fwiw:
ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas said Augustin should return to Texas.
"I think D.J. needs to work on his defense," Bilas said Monday. "I think he could really benefit from another year in college because he'll improve his own game and probably improve his draft stock."
Here's the full article.

Kansas
I'm very interested in seeing what the Jayhawks on that list do. I think that if 2 of the "50-50" guys go, the other will, too. But if all go, it really opens things up in the Big 12 for next season. We might need to root for KU to win it all so they don't come back next season with the idea of "unfinished business".
And I really hope Griffin goes. He reminds me of Bookout, only he's good. I don't know where he stands now, but I think one more year in school assures him of a top 10 spot next year.
Can you imagine OU
Without Griffin?
Heres to hoping he goes.

Blake Griffin
I do not see him turning pro. From all I've heard and read, he and his older brother are very close. I expect Blake to take advantage of the opportunity to play one more year with older bro, Taylor.
The only reason I could see him turning pro is b/c of his two knee injuries this season. He is realistically one more knee injury away from NBA teams starting to question his ability to stay healthy.
If Robin Lopez had different hair
would scouts still compare him to Anderson Varejao? Everything I read seems to say that.
A Trojan can only be used once. A Bruin is forever.
