Jermichael Finley in AAS

You can read the article here:

Finley's Life has been a Whirlwind

Star-divide

This is a well written article about a guy who got little press in his time at Texas.  Football aside, I bet I could count on my hands the number of people on this blog that knew he had one child, let alone two.  Knowing that also makes a bit more sense out of his decision to go pro.  I know TEs don't have as big of an impact on the game as do quarterbacks or running backs, but I feel like Finley's decision to go pro this year is akin to if VY had decided to bolt for the NFL after his first Rose Bowl performance.  He had a breakout season, but his talent at the college level has yet to be fully showcased.

Maybe its because I thought that Finley would be the GO TO pass catcher this coming year if he had stayed, and that his size and speed would make him a perfect decoy for the WRs if need be, but I sure am upset that he left.  NFL bucks will go a long way towards keeping him and his family financially secure, and I wish him the best of luck.  I'm just unsure of whether or not it would have been worth it for him to stay one more year and really blow it up on the college level before he started playing with the big boys.

Being a projected third round pick in this year's draft, would it have been worth it for Finley to stay one more year?

re:

I knew that he was going to have his second kid, but I don't think IMO that's why everyone was as upset as they were.  The comments he made earlier were part of the fuel to the fire.  I think another year at Texas, even if he wasn't the go to receiver, would have benefited his stock b/c scouts would've had more tape on him.

Fluff

Article was crap. It's the equivalent of eating a microwaved Peep. Yeah...go figure out THAT one!!

PS: Obligatory "microwaved Peep" YouTUBE link has not been included because that would actually give gooey substance to a subject that I'm expressly trying to exhibit as pointless.

PSS: Oh...to hell with it.

I would totally read the Washington Post every single day if I cared at all about helping Dan Steinberg keep his job.

Good luck to J-Mike

Football aside, I bet I could count on my hands the number of people on this blog that knew he had one child, let alone two.

.
I mentioned his children here on a number of occasions.

He's a darn good player with very good pass catching skills, though his concentration has been questionable on a few occasions. He was really under utilized at UT. As is customary when the O-Line is questionable, Mack Davis panicked keeping J-Mike in to block, rather than floating him into the hole of the zone. Had we made him a consistent outlet receiver, he'd have posted 70+ receptions. Ask yourself, how many times did I see J'Mike streaking down the hashmark seam when the defense was in Cover-2?

He'll learn more in his first pre-season of the NFL than he'd have learned in 2 full seasons under Mack Davis.

Chalk him up as another great athlete who was

completely wasted in a Greg Davis offense.

Chilluns

I've heard of him having a few kids as well.  A former friend of mine has been friends with many players on the team, and she's even engaged to a LB from our NC team.  She told me a couple years back that he had a few baby mamas and would be likely to go pro early to pay child support.

I didn't really trust her at the time, nor do I now.  And I know, "my sister's friend's cousin's dentist's uncle said blah blah blah," but she's always been on that inner football circle, and she's been right about a couple things in the past.

Anyway, he's been able to keep it from being an issue/distraction, so credit him for that.  He's been taking care of his business, and I wish him the best at the next level.
