Texas Basketball Postseason Outearns Football
According to this Statesman article, the Longhorns Elite Eight run generated more revenue for the school than the football team's Holiday Bowl berth. In fact, Texas lost money on its December trip to California because its expenditures exceeded the bowl payout, about $1.2 million.
Also of interest, the story notes that the Big 12 is paid for each game played in the NCAA Tournament, with Kansas and Texas accounting for half the conference's revenue over the past six years.
Which rather reminded me of DJ Augustin's quote when asked about an emerging 'rivalry' with Texas A&M on the hardwood: "No. Kansas is our rival."

Maybe now Texassports.com and the “Longhorn Sports Center” program will realize we have a basketball team. I mean come on, Sweet 16 is less important than finding out who’s going to be 4th string on the left tackle depth chart?
The Longhorn Sports Center devoted 5 minutes at most to the Memphis game, buried deep in the second half of the show behind track, swimming, and underwater basket weaving. And the TexasSports web page had the basketball team in the bottom right corner below the ads.

+1
Ridiculous spring game got more play on the local news than the Elite 8 game. Sad.

This story
is a plant by the AD to complain about revenue sharing. Football makes so much more that any other sport.

I agree with that
There is no way that basketball brought in more revenue – even with the tourney appearances. Until they lay it all out, it appears to be bullshit to me.

nobody said it didn't
PB said the Elite 8 appearance (postseason) brought in more revenue than the Holiday Bowl (postseason).
No mention of total revenue windfalls for the year. Obviously football makes more when the stadium holds 90k+ people shelling out at least 50 bucks to see Arkansas State.

when did Augustin make that quote?
I heard him make the comment that the fans seem to think OU is our rival, but to the team, it is Kansas, but I’ve never heard him mention A&M.
