I Am a Chris Lofton Fan
I really can't stand Tennessee, don't really like Bruce Pearl, and really didn't think too highly of Chris Lofton. Until now.
Read this ESPN article.
In an age when too many athletes seek the spotlight when they don't deserve it, make unnecessary excuses, or blame others for their own failures, this is a very refreshing story. Some of you might find it silly that Lofton didn't tell his teammates, his friends, or even some of his family members that he had cancer. I think it's admirable. He didn't complain, didn't make excuses, and didn't sulk. He quietly went about his business, struggled through an unbelievably tough hand, worked his ass off, and eventually beat cancer.
Kudos Mr. Lofton, you have a new fan.

Agreed
Previously I wasn’t a huge fan either, but that is just impressive. I’ve been really annoyed with athletes that just constantly seek attention, especially lately with kids and recruiting – the terelle pryor incident comes to mind. So often you see these kids that just try to get all they can and manipulate things so they can have that spotlight. Then they don’t understand when people scold and berate them when things awry. Much respect to Lofton for fighting his own battle to continue doing what he loves. Hard not to like a guy with that kind of drive and maturity.

Ditto
A Freddie Steinmark-esque story with a much happier ending.

Seconded
Despite being a Kentucky fan, I actually loved watching Lofton play, especially with that chip on his shoulder of being neglected by the two Kentucky super-powers.
He’s been one of my favorite college players these past few years, and I hope he sticks on in the Association somewhere.

Wow, really impressive.
Normally, I’m not a fan of these sap/motivational stories, but this really inspiring and really brave. To think, I was making fun of this guy in the tournament and the whole season. He did not play that well this season and now I see why. I, too, am a fan of this guy.
Still, I will never be a fan of Mr. Clown, himself, Bruce Pearl, nor will I ever be a fan of the fake UT.

trully impressive, no matter who it is or where they are from. i admire anyone who does the right thing when no one is looking and even more so when they dont try and make a big deal about doing the right thing.

Great Fanpost ...
... awiggo. As you may know, Lofton is from Kentucky, and even though he went to UT, many of us have admired him and wished we had been able to fit him into UK’s roster at the time. That’s not to say he would have gone to Kentucky if we had offered him—he may well have gone to Tennessee anyway.
My co-blogger Ken Howlett wrote a great piece about him over at A Sea of Blue. Check it out, if you are of a mind.
