The Players: A Lesson in Karma
Mother's Day is a lovely day for golf...on TV. I could not get out on the course myself on Sunday as I was cooking brunch for my lovely wife. Instead, I tuned into television coverage of The Players Championship. About ten minutes before Paul Goydos teed off, they aired an interview betwixt the defeated once-leader and our favorite 'little fella' of sports broadcasting: Bob Costas. I could immediately sense a great deal of over-confidence from Goydos. His interview demeanor belied his beleif that he had this thing wrapped up.
Anyway, his matter-of-fact smart-ass remarks about the course and his game-plan planted a seed of doom, as we witnessed him 1.) Blow his lead and very-possible win in regulation by choking on a donkey dong on 18. So we go to playoff hole one (17th, very short) and he 2.) Double-Bogies.
Paul Goydos, a real jackass, sealed his own fate by being a primmadonna with Costas before his round.
Oh yeah, nice collar-less, lime-green jersey. Real classy.
Have a nice week.

At least Goydos made Costas look dumb
I wish more players would interview like Goydos. It highlights Costas’ inability to function in the face of superior wit. I didn’t see his interview pre-Sunday, so maybe he took it too far. After Saturday’s round, though, Goydos was on fire.
My favorite line:
Costas was asking Goydos about holding the first 54-hole lead of his career:
Goydos: “But I’ve only been on the tour 16 years.”
