Calvin Howell commits
It looks like another solid commitment for the 2009 class! Does anyone think this could affect Jamarkus' decision? I know we're pretty thin at DT so it might not but please let me know if you have any information.
Also, are we completely out of the running for Russell Shepard? It seems as though we are...and if so, who, besides Jarmarkus, are our main remaining targets? I'm not even sure what we need because we are cleaning up shop in a lot of areas with this class! I think we definitely need another DT.

Targets
I think the only targets left are McFarland, S Kevin Brent, DE Devon Kennard, and CB Dre Kirkpatrick. In my opinion McFarland is by far the most important one left. Kennard and Kirkpatrick are both out of state and we know how that usually turns out for Mack, and rumor is that Brent is an OU lean. So it seems as if McFarland might be the only big time guy we still have a shot with. Then again its only May and we still have 9 months to signing day so lots can happen.

Between the uncommitted players, those 4 are the only ones with an offer I think. It seems Chris Johnson, Emory Blake and Trent Richardson are not getting an offer. Between those 3, Blake stands a better chance of getting an offer though.
We have a “shot” at any of those 4 players btw, just a better shot at J. McFarland, who is said to be a slight LSU lean recently.
Get your ass going! You ain't hurt!

Howell is an important get,
but he was always a real strong Texas lean. McFarland is the absolute top priority. Ideally, he will realize that joining Howell (would it be too far fetched to add Kennard as well? – we have better than a long shot with him) would constitute the foundation for the best D-line in college football.
I'll never forget ol' what's-his-name.

Shepard is recruiting...
all his Texas All-Star brethren to LSU. Not trying to be “glass is half empty” here, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see him play in Baton Rouge. I know Mack enjoys recruiting guys that “want” to come to Texas, but it would be nice to pluck a top recruit or two away from top notch programs within ear-shot every now and then.

Shepard
I don’t Shepard matters. I heard he was “recruiting” that Loston kid that committed to Clemson too!

since the longhorns have a verbal from gilbert, i think we can kiss anything to do with sheppard goodbye.

Gilbert
I’m glad Texas chose Gilbert. I think the switch from Colt to Gilbert will be much smoother than Colt to Shepard.
