Texas dodges a bullet: Perrilloux dismissed by Miles
Like most Texas fans, I was most disappointed when in 2005, Perrilloux signed with LSU on signing day rather than signing with the Longhorns, the team he verbally committed to the previous July.
However, since enrolling at LSU, Perrilloux has been plagued with off-field problems, including being named a "person of interest" in a federal investigation.
Like many, I thought Les Miles would continue to allow Perrilloux to mess up, and come back. Apparently, I was wrong. It appears that Miles has dismissed Perrilloux from the team.

What a fool
The guy would have been leading one of the favorites to win the BCS Championship Game next year, and as a result one of the Heisman favorites.
Starting to make more sense why Shephard committed to the Tigers now.
Life is an Occasion. Rise to it.
Wow
Apparently a student in the Ramonce Taylor School of Wasting Talent.
I disagree, however, with saying that this is why Shephard when to LSU. I believe it is the exact opposite. Shephard going to LSU helped with Miles’ decision to cut Ryan loose. I mean, we know it wasn’t based on the coache’s strong ethical foundation.
So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!
Dodged a bullet is right
Totally agree with your headline, but disagree with the use of the word plagued in the post. Trouble didn’t find Perrilloux, he went looking for it.
It’s like he took out an automatic weapon, pointed it at his foot (or higher – about halfway up), took careful aim and held the trigger until the clip was empty. What a fool, indeed.
That guy is a big ol' cuss.....look at him rumblin' down the field......looks like a grizzly bear haulin' a walnut.

Sarcasm
Trust me, that sentence was laced with heavy sarcasm.
I have been looking for the interview where Ryan Perrilloux talks about Ryan Perrilloux and all the Heisman’s he was going to win. Unfortunately, I have been unable to dig it up.
The only thing that has plagued RP is his overinflated sense of his importance. See, sarcasm!
Sorry dude
It was early – my sarcasm detector wasn’t awake yet.

He puts the do

...a University of the first class, to be located by a vote of the people of this State, and styled, "The University of Texas,"...
Kudos
to Les Miles for taking the high road on this one. Les catches a lot of flack around here, but there aren’t too many coaches that would dismiss a player with that much talent.
Thankfully, Mack Brown is also part of that elite group.
Gotta disagree
This kid has been under federal investigation, has practically failed out of school, has refused to show up for practices, but failing a drug test is where Miles draws the line?
Miles had no choice anymore. There’s not a coach in American who wouldn’t have taken a huge publicity hit for letting this guy play the ‘08 season. The fact Perriloux was even still on the team this morning is disgusting enough. Getting rid of him was necessary. It’s not some noble act at this point.
I raise your disagreement
It probably took every thread of every bolt of LSU PR machinery to convince Miles that dismissing this loser was his only remaining option. I’m not going to be completely convinced he’s gone until they tee it up in September and Perrilloux doesn’t walk out on the field.

I agree
with all of you. Miles would have kept this kid around no matter what if it was his decision…
So what if I'm tired? I can rest when I die.

Can I use the “Epic Fail” here? Methinks so.

without getting into an argument
about what “that much tallent” is, off the top of my head (dismissed or indefinitely suspended):
1. Ramonce Taylor
2. Robert Joseph
3. Kwame Cavil
4. Andre Jones
5. Tyrell Gatewood
Plus, WW, you are putting an extra caveat in there – one that no college coach in the country lives up to, or should. “Repeated Offenses” Unless the action is a major violation of NCAA rules that is going to get your whole program in trouble, I don’t think that there are any coaches out there that throw a player under the bus for a first time infraction.
I am not calling the payers saints – not by any stretch. However, I do think that MB has done an admirable job in handling the majority of the bad apples.
re: links
Am I the only one who, when clicking a link, expects some funny pic? I attribute that to Bombilla, whose pics I miss dearly.

I think Bombilla has been actually working his job lately. Sad.
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.
Is it football season YET?

Kwame Cavil wasn't dismissed by Mack
he failed a drug test, which meant the NCAA was going to ban him for a year, hence his reason for going pro
It is amusing that you use Andre Jones as an example.
I agree with the previous poster that you can’t give Miles any credit for being a disciplinarian in this case.
a little recruiting history...
for a little window into the value system of the perrilloux family, i refer you only to rpongett’s pulitzer-quality recap of his recruiting saga. it’s long, but worth it:

good riddance, RP. i hope you and your equally-upstanding father are happy with your choices.
bleeding orange up in nyc. get a rope.
Yikes ...
... careful, now. I believe the father in question died in February.
I refused to name my children Vince, Kevin or Major ... despite my secret desire to do so.

Wow
I just revisited that entire saga in reading that very long essay about the travails of RP. I REALLY HATE THAT GUY. BTW, Thats his stepfather in that story, who is still alive.
Horizontalism is its own reward.
ah, i forgot
but while i regret his family’s loss, it doesn’t excuse either of their behaviors.

Wow
If that’s true HornigStrega that is truly amazing. After some of our former players troubles I am glad he didn’t come here. I can’t assail Ramonce Taylor though, IMHO he came correct coming to UT & made some big plays on the field – just made the wrong kind off of it.
Ramonce Taylor was in High School with my brother...
I can honestly say that there were some things about his arrest that did not add up. The kid he was with was the grandson of a big whig in Belton. Things were not 100% clear about that. However, I do applaud Mack for decisively dealing with it.
