EA Sports' NCAA 09 UT Ratings Out
For those eagerly awaiting the first sign that college football is just around the corner, the sure to turn even the most socially adept amongst us into blinds closing, headset adorned girlfriendless/future divorcee zombies of the night EA Sports' NCAA Football '09, the light at the end of the pitch black, seemingly Atlantic Ocean lengthed tunnel that is the college football off-season is finally visible with Operation Sports releasing a bevee of screen shots from the forthcoming title. If you haven't been sleeping while listening to the audio book version of the '08 media guide (narrated entirely in PB's Mack Brown voice) like some of the folks around these parts, here's a name/number matchup so you can begin verbally berating EA Sports for not making Colt an 82 awareness.
FB #3 Chris Ogbonnaya 93 Overall
RE #32 Eddie Jones 92 Overall
LE #33 Lamarr Houston 91 Overall
DT #99 Roy Miller 90 Overall
MLB #44 Rashad Bobino 90 Overall
RE #98 Brian Orakpo 90 Overall
QB #12 Colt McCoy 89 Overall
It also bears mentioning that DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium is ranked in the game as the 12th toughest place to play, beating even the daunting likes of Kyle Field (seen below):
And finally, for those wondering about the game's Top 25 (which I've heard in the past has been based on Athlon's, for whatever that's worth), I've done the grunt work and assembled what should be the first of a number of pre-season Top 25's for everyone to argue about:
1. Georgia Bulldogs 99 Overall
2. Oklahoma Sooners 96 Overall
3. Ohio State Buckeyes 99 Overall
4. USC Trojans 94 Overall
5. Florida Gators 94 Overall
6. LSU Tigers 91 Overall
7. Missouri Tigers 94 Overall
8. West Virginia Mountaineers 84 Overall
9. Wisconsin Badgers 89 Overall
10. Texas Longhorns 89 Overall
11. Clemson Tigers 89 Overall
12. Texas Tech Red Raiders 86 Overall
13. Penn State Nittany Lions 91 Overall
14. Arizona State Sun Devils 86 Overall
15. Kansas Jayhawks 77 Overall
16. Auburn Tigers 84 Overall
17. Virginia Tech Hokies 84 Overall
18. Illinois Fighting Illini 81 Overall
19. Tennessee Volunteers 89 Overall
20. BYU Cougars 79 Overall
21. South Carolina Gamecocks 89 Overall
22. Alabama Crimson Tide 84 Overall
23. Oregon Ducks 81 Overall
24. Cincinnati Bearcats 84 Overall
25. Wake Forest Demon Deacons 77 Overall
Just a few quick thoughts:
- The game shares my opinion that Ohio State's returning talent is equal to anyone's in the country but 99 overall?
- Georgia at 99 is also a bit of a head scratcher as I feel the heralding of Georgia's wide receiving core and overall defensive speed has been the result of lazy, intellectual shortcuts, and Stafford's ascension to quarterback du jour overwhelmingly based on his incredible measurables and out-of-high school grades as opposed to actual on the field results.
- LSU is absurdly overrated, but probably fails to account for the loss of Perrilloux.
- EA seems to rate WVU about equal to how much I feel Bill Stewart will run this potential national title contender into the ground with his plans to have Pat White pass more and operate out of the ace form more oftenly.
- Penn State at #11 and a 89 overall is a joke, as is Kansas at #15 (which at least to EA's credit they account for with the paltry overall rating).
- South Carolina, an 89 overall at #21?!? Looks like the game's developers were a little too cranked out on ESS-EEE-CEE speedballs while rating players.

OG?
I’ll be the first to say that I figured Colt, Orakpo, or even someone like Quan might be our highest rated player on the game. Regardless, still fun to see. I’m curious to see the top rated players on the game. It’s always fun to see which guys come out as a 99. Any guesses? I’d think someone like Tebow and/or Harvin might be up there. Perhaps the CB returning to Ohio State. Who else?

Good guesses...
Tebow and Ohio State’s James Laurinaitis are the highest rated players in the game. Both are 99s overall. Chris Wells is the highest rated tailback in the game at 97 overall. Tech’s Michael Crabtree and the aforementioned Harvin are the highest rated wide receivers at 96.

What hole have you been living in all year?
Mizzou is dangerous. I’m glad we have them in the library this year, at least the crowd won’t be a factor. Twelfth toughest place to play? Yeah, if you’re already losing.

my basement
im just saying they have one good year and everybody is treating them like the next USC. Same with Kansas, last year was a weak college football year allowing small time teams to shine. (who knows bout next year)

I see the avg. att. for dkr is only 88,505, are the upgrades to the stadium not on this game?
It looks like they have Texas D looking pretty good on this game!

EA Sports
This is a little off topic, but maybe someone can answer my question. I love the EA Sports MVP Baseball game, but they quit making it after 2005 (they lost their license agreement with MLB or something). They even make a PC version. I still play the 2005 PC version to unwind almost everyday after work but it is getting old. Does EA Sports have any plans to bring this back? I know they have an NCAA baseball version but not in PC format. Is there a good MLB game for PC? The ones I’ve seen have little dots for the players, etc. Thanks.

well
in response to EA signing a deal with the NFL to exclusively produce NFL football games, 2K sports did the same thing with the MLB.
So, no more MVP baseball, which was by far the greatest baseball game ever made.

Ohio State
I don’t think Ohio State is that good. Teams should be able to run on them (USC). The problem is that they play in a weak conference, and they win it every year (thats why they don’t want a playoff system).

About that...
Well, the Buckeyes return 10/11 starters on a team that was 3rd best in the NCAA at rushing yards allowed. They held were only ever really burned by Illinois (despite keeping Rashard Mendenhall well below his season yards per carry and per game average), having their worst defensive game of the season but still only allowing the Illini to reach just 4 yards above their regular season average with a huge part of that being the result of a complete fluke breakdown resulting 80 yard scamper by backup Daniel Dufrene.
Even in the national championship loss, Ohio State held the nation’s 12th best rushing offense to almost 60 yards below their regular season average, and starting tailback Jacob Hester to just 88 yards.
It’s also worth mentioning that the game this season is in Los Angeles, which by my calculations is south of the Ihop-Waffle House Dixon Line and thus should prohibit the additional gravitational pull in the midwest that normally causes Ohio State to have Big 10 speed from being a factor.
