Chiles to WR?
I apologize for such a short post, as I have very little information from myself, but I know someone who works for the orangebloods staff and here's what he has to say, just passing it on:
"I'm hearing that John Chiles will now be a WR fulltime instead of a QB. He still might get some QB snaps, but he will no longer be part of the QB depth chart."
Not that our possibly former situation looked much better, but if this true this brings about Harris as our #2 QB and probably kills his thoughts of transferring. I know alot of people were looking for more Colt and Chiles plays, but I'm not sure this is what they envisioned. Would be sick to watch him out in the open field a little more however.

hmmm
not calling you a liar, but sounds like speculation (no sources, “I have a friend…”) you get the idea.
Assuming its true, this would be pretty major. I really think Sherrod has gotten a bad deal though. He took like 3 snaps last year. He seems like a cool dude, I’ve seem him around campus, just like jammin out to his ipod.

Yeah
I was hesitant to post it because of that, but it’s slow and I thought people would enjoy just thinking about football. Sherrod is indeed a good guy, one of my best (girl) friends knows him quite well haha. In the biblical sense you might say.

this would be
excellent news if it turns out to be true. this would give us that explosiveness that we need so badly on offense right now.

Good news, if accurate.
I think it strengthens both positions.

WR?
I don’t know. I think he’ll work at QB if used properly.

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!

if Colt is our guy
then why not? not that we’d model strategy after OU, but they moved a guy to WR and back with some success, so it isn’t necessarily a long-term irreversible decision.

I get that OU is the biggest rival
But those who dont support Colt should really rather mold their arguments in the vein of aTm, not OU.
For the record, Colt is 1-1 against OU, with a total series score of 49-38 (In Texas’ favor), and Colt has gone 30/44 (68% Completion) for 4 TDs, 1 pick and 432 yards.
OU is not his choke job, at least not yet.

ou
The only reason Texas won his freshman year, was because they won the turnover battle. That game is decided every year by the amount of turnovers.

Oh man where to start....
Alright, first off. If indeed the only reason Texas wins is due to winning turnovers, wouldn’t Colt’s lack of interceptions be a major component of that? I don’t care to look it up, but I’m willing to guess, on many years of many teams in all of college football the top individual on offense to turn the ball over would probably be quarterback. So even if what you suggest is true, I still maintain, Colt has a pretty big part in that.
Second, how many OU games have you watched? Some games are close enough to be determined by turnovers. Im sure every Longhorn out there would have felt much better about our chances to come out with a victory this past year had Jamal not coughed it up in the redzone, however thats just a ridiculous statement. Let me provide a few examples.
2005:
Texas – 45 (1TOs)
OU – 10 (2TOs)
Point Differential +35
TO Differential +1
2004:
Texas – 0 (3 TOs)
OU – 12 (3 TOs)
Point Differential -12
TO Differential 0
2003:
Texas – 17 (6 TOs)
OU – 65 (1 TO)
Point Differential -48
TO Differential -5
2002:
Texas – 24 (4 TOs)
OU – 35 (4 TOs)
Point Differential -11
TO Differential 0
I guess you could say that the team that wins the turnover battle wins the game, but thats indicitive of the game as well. Its like saying, the OU game is decided every year by the team that scores more touchdowns.
Anyway, clearly in 2 of the past 5 years at least, the turnovers were even, so its hard to say that they decided the game.

usage
Texas would have to run the same offense as they did when VY was there. Chiles is only a soph. I think I remember people saying somebody else couldn’t throw the ball all the way up until he was holding the national championship trophy.
I don’t think on Chiles worst day, it would be any worse than Kansas State last year.

This was Vince's first game
http://www.burntorangenation.com/2008/4/22/447180/a-legend-is-born-vince-yo
How many games will it take for Chiles to get the passing numbers Vince got in his first pass?
Until Chiles has the threat to throw, he will never be a quality QB. Im all for it if he shows that he can pass, but to date he hasnt, at all. Dont compare him to Vince, rewatch that video. Thats how a star is born. Chiles is no Vince, stop trying to make him into one.

turnovers
I didn’t see 2006 and 2007 in your stats. I think 2006 and 2007 contribute to my point. Texas had less turnovers in 2006, and ou had less in 2007. The 2005 year was different, because Texas had one of the greatest teams ever.

I did neglect 2007
2006 I didnt provide the stats because I provided the commentary about Charles fumble, it was included in my conclusion of 2/5 games TOs not deciding.
Your right in 2005 I would also say TOs didnt matter, but for your benefit the data suggests the team with less turn overs won, so I kept it in there.
So in 1/3 of the past 6 games, TOs didnt make the difference, if you count 2005 as a win for turnovers.
My point is, if you took all college football games, I bet you would find similar stats. Turnovers is not a winning stat against OU any more than anything else. And eve if you think TOs is the end all be all, no one is more important to that stat than the QB, so making the claim that the win Colt’s freshman year had nothing to do with him, is ludicrous.

Let me clarify
If you think 2005 was not indicative of turnovers deciding the outcome, then only 1/2 the games played in the last 6 years have been “decided” by turnovers.

Vince
I know there will NEVER be another Vince… I just think people are already giving up on Chiles, just like many did on Vince (as a passer).

The media gave up on Vince as a passer
I dont think the Austin faithful did. Thats a different situation than Chiles.
Also, I havent given up on him, but he has to show SOMETHING for me to claim that he can be a passer. He was a WR in most of high school, thats where he could do this team the most good. I really hope he gets some looks out there. I think its insane that we havent seen Colt and Chiles on the field at the same time more. Its a waste of talent not to use him however we can.

2005
If Texas would have lost the turnover battle in 2005, I think they still would have won (thats what I’m trying to say) ! The better teams can overcome turnovers. The years when the turnovers were even, I think the better coached team won.

So what your saying is...
The Texas OU game is not decided every year by the amount of turnovers.
That I can agree with.
