Chicago Tribune Gets First Picture of Ced's Boat Party

The Chicago Tribune has yet another account of what really happened on Cedric Benson's boat at Devil's Cove.  That's Ced on the left, and his mom is in the middle of the group in the front.  The article has some accounts from those on board and others on the lake that generally agree with Benson's story.

The Big Lead  also has a discussion on the emergence of the picture, which seems to focus mostly on "Who's the girl in the white?"

From the ......

......AA-S: “We reported today that Benson’s former Longhorn teammate Aaron Harris was part of the floating fun in Devil’s Cove, along with his fiancee Elizabeth Cartwright. (Shoot, even some LCRA water cops stopped by to crash the party.)”

When has Aaron Harris’ association with any of our players been a good thing for our Longhorns?

It is interesting to note this Elizabeth Cartwright (who placed the cell call to her daddy) is engaged to the same Aaron Harris.

Aaron Harris

I remember Harris was in the car for the Tarell Brown incident, but what else has he done to besmirch his reputation? Just wondering.

Don't you...

......remember Aaron Harris’ little jaunt through Madisonville, Texas?

"Running back Selvin Young, defensive back Edorian McCullough, linebacker Aaron Harris and defensive lineman Larry Dibbles were stopped by the Brazos Valley Narcotics Task Force on May 1."

More Benson updates...

On Thursday, another witness to the arrest supported claims by Benson and a friend that Benson was mistreated by police.

Tony Patch, who was not a passenger on Benson’s boat, told WXAN-TV in Austin that he saw LCRA police “manhandling” Benson.

“As they were taking him up the dock, they stopped. He said, ‘I am fine, I can continue walking,’ and they put their legs behind his knees and knocked him over his knees and started hog-carrying him,” Patch said, according to the report.

“They ended up - I don’t know why - but laid him on his back, I heard him say, ‘Please don’t pepper-spray me, please don’t pepper-spray me,’” Patch said, according to the report. “It was uncalled for, it was ludicrous, no point for it.”

Also noteworthy, Benson’s new lawyer is Sam Bassett.

Bassett gained national attention in his defense of Colton Pitonyak, who was convicted last year in the gruesome murder of University of Texas student Jennifer Cave.

More Benson...

Interesting Benson commentary from an Austinite (I’m inferring, but from the piece it sounds like he is).

[via Deadspin]

I have never, ever seen a Lower Colorado River Authority officer do anything other than float by and ask the white partiers if everything is all right.

Now if you’re a young, black and wealthy NFL running back, and ex University of Texas star named Cedric Benson and you own a 30-foot party boat and you’re on Lake Travis with your boys and some women and the same music is playing that was heard on the by white partiers just five minutes before – well, you’re getting busted. And if you say a word, you’re getting sprayed.

Elizabeth Cartwright

Was on the Michael Irvin show today in Dallas. I didnt listen to all of it, but she was implying the race card pretty hard as well from what I heard.

She claimed that every single time she has been on the lake with Ced, they have gotten “Random Inspections” and that she never has when she is out on her Fathers boat. Though I also doubt the noise level is the same either.

Looks like you can listen to it online, if you can stand to listen to Irvin and Kiley that long, I think it went almost an hour of real time… http://stations.espn.go.com/stations/espn1033/

careful Deon...

Is Ced holding Zig Zags? And did Beasley just take a hit from a pipe that is hiding in his hand? I don’t approve.

by BigTexBD on May 9, 2008 4:24 PM CDT reply reply   0 recs

why would they need papers if they had a pipe?

also, i don’t see said pipe. he’s holding something, probably. how are you so sure it’s a pipe?

i'm speculating

I’ve got no proof to go on; it just looks very suspicious to me. As for the papers, some people like joints rather than other methods. I doubt Cedric would do that with his mom there, though.

It all just seems a little sketchy to me. Deon seriously looks like he’s just been toking and munching on those sunchips.

of course it is suspicious ...

young black guys on a boat with white chicks? In Texas? I can’t think of anything more suspicious. I am surprised the little piggies didn’t “find” some contraband. Where was the drugs, where were the guns. Those guys must have been up to something!!
