Inning by Inning: Portrait of a Coach hits cable
Living in Houston, I missed the world premier of UT alum Rick Linklater's new documentary on Augie at the Paramount (June 2).
Set your DVRs because it will be on the ESPN network Sunday and Wednesday!
Backstory interview with Linklater
As I found out a few weeks ago when I spoke to the Austin Film Society (Linklater is Artistic Director), ESPN owns the rights to the film. The two hour documentary is scheduled to be shown:
Sunday, June 15 9:00PM CDT - ESPN2 and ESPN2HD
Wednesday, June 18 2:00PM CDT - ESPNCL (Classic)
There are hints of a DVD package coming available, which could include extra footage and would be a different version from the one we will see on cable, you know, due to Augie's flowery vocab and all.
Don't miss this and Hook 'em Augie!

DVR already set
I couldn’t attend the Paramount showing either, so I was more than excited to see ESPN has it on their schedule coming up.

awesome show
I didn’t realize it was going to be 2 hours but I’m glad it was – one hour sure would not have been enough.
I’m ready to go play for Augie…..well, okay I suck but that’s not the point. It’s obvious Augie is a great motivater. The scene where he blew up during this year (and they then went on a 10 game win streak) – yikes! Now that was an ass chewing of epic proportions.
Great show! (I wish they would have interviewed more players though – kind of turned into a Huston Street interview. That’s no knock on Huston – he was clutch in ‘05 – just would have been nice to hear from some of the other guys.)

Saw it last night.
Awesome show. Augie is my second favorite coach at UT, after Rick Barnes. After seeing that, I have total confidence that he’ll find a way out of this slump. Bill Little still ticks me off, though.

I
watched this – it was an excellent show. I love hating on Augie Garrido more than any other college baseball coach in the nation – Nebraska fans have a lot of fun with him when he comes to Lincoln (we refer to him as “Soggy Burrito”). He’s a huge asset to the game.
They had some excellent post-game speeches, including one tirade that I’m sure if it were shown with regular sports coverage would have been all over the internet with people calling for his head and thinking him a horrible person.
There were two parts that stuck out – him talking about how baseball is a game of failure and the one time he went off about how his players had plenty of other stuff going on but for him that coaching his team and college baseball were his life and that he expected them to give their best effort whenever they took the field. You cannot buy that kind of passion for any price.
