Danks is probably gone
The White Sox are one of few teams than can pay Jordan what he will probably ask for. Whether or not they are willing to is another matter, but they can certainly afford to, and if they make him the right offer, I think Danks will not care that he fell to the 7th round.
To my knowledge, only 2 Texas recruits have been drafted: Robbie Grossman of Cy-Fair and Taylor Jungmann of Georgetown. Grossman went to the Pirates in the 6th round, but he has told the Texas coaches he will be on campus this fall, and considering that the Pirates don’t have the largest checkbook in the world, I don’t think there will be any huge contracts to sway him. Jungmann went in the 24th round to the Angels, who most certainly can afford a huge contract but are not likely to give one to a 24th round pick.
In short, I think Texas gets all of their recruits to school next year.

Danks
Agreed that he is probably gone. Don’t forget that Jordan’s brother John is a pitcher for the White Sox.
We’re probably a huge winner in the draft, with Grossman and Jungmann likely to end up on campus (saw somewhere that Grossman said he expects Jungmann to go to school). Interesting to see Kyle Walker go so high, considering how poor he has pitched during the year.
That Torres and Wood have not been drafted is a fantastic sign for next year.

White Sox also drafted Danks twice
They took him in the 19th round out of high school. Clearly they’ve been watching his development and want him on board, and I think they will make it worth his while.
I was surprised to see Walker go before Kasparek. I know he has potential, but given chance after chance to prove it, he really never did.
I’m excited about the prospect of retaining the infield, given that Hernandez and Belt were not draft eligible, and Tucker has not gone yet. It looks like Clark’s injury problems will keep him around for his senior year. I know it was an error-plagued group early on and sporadically at the end of the year, but having that year of experience should help out a lot.
The pitching staff is also setting up to be quite good next year, even if Kasparek signs; three very talented freshmen starters coming in (Jungmann, Austin Dicharry, and Sam Stafford) to join Ruffin, Boening, potentially Austin Wood. Barring injuries, Texas should really have a lethal staff for 2010, since Ruffin won’t be draft eligible until his third year.

Quote from Grossman
“I called Tommy Harmon and told him I’ll be at Texas a week before school starts,” Grossman said. “I’m just excited. I think (Taylor) Jungmann is going to be a Longhorn, too.”
Grossman, Moldenhauer, Lusson and Keyes in the outfield plus the return of the entire infield and two of three starters, Texas in 2009 and 2010 should be stacked like it hasn’t been since 2004 and 2005.

Who is the kid from Baytown?
Apparently he throws 95 and can mash…..he had control problems late in the year, which caused his draft status to drop….I can’t remember his name, but hear he’s a stud…
