Bears cut Benson
So I guess they decided they could part with him after all. Can't really blame them after everything that's happened. Whether Ced goes to jail for the driving incident, I do not know. And as to speculation to where he could possibly land next, if at all, I'll leave that to you guys. A friend suggested the Titans, I say kinda sorta no. Such a pity this guy never got the bigger picture

Let this be a lesson Longhorn football players....never hang with Aaron Harris. The dude's a bad luck charm.

So....
The Cowboys are ready to take on another project right?

I don't think
the cowboys would need him right? They’ve got Barber, Jones, and that other guy. I don’t really know what the roster needs are for any of the teams right now concerning RB. The Bears could have been considered one of those teams before they cut Benson. Awww damn, now I’m drawn into this convo.

Good for both sides
Hopefully Benson can salvage his career elsewhere. His agent better perform a hell of a miracle.

Just talked to a buddy of mine
friend: “I don’t think anyone needs him”
me: “Ain’t that the truth”
I can’t even imagine where he would land. Texans possibly, but they drafted Slaton and have Ahman Green…..plus being that close to Austin….he’d get into more trouble

Titans
Maybe. And, that’s a big maybe.
But, it’s come out that Lendale had some knee problems last year and they’ve been interviewing similar backs, ie Ron Dayne. With the recent issues with Pacman, it seems unlikely because of the character issues. The only thing working for him is if VY and co can put in a good word for him based on their history together at Texas.

I personally
and I’m pretty sure that the Titans Management, would not want Benson. However much I want to think him a decent guy with a bad rap, he seems to be a problem. He’s no Pac-Man, but his law issues are enough reason not to want him

LenDale had a torn miniscus and it was surgically repaired in the off season. Both he and the Titans have asserted that he is 100%. Last year he gained 1,110 yards, not a bad figure at all.
NASHVILLE, TN, May 14, 2008 — Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White revealed Tuesday that he played the entire 2007 season on a torn meniscus.
White, who had arthroscopic surgery on the knee in January, took part in organized team activities Tuesday after being limited to individual drills the previous week.
I think with PacMan and another player facing a steroid investigation:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. —Tennessee Titans linebacker Ryan Fowler is under investigation by the NFL in connection with an apparent steroids case, Fowler’s lawyer said Monday. The lawyer said he assumes the investigation stems from the death last week of David Jacobs, a convicted steroids dealer who claimed to have sold drugs to pro football players. Police in Plano said Jacobs killed himself.
Ginsberg, speaking by phone from New York, said the NFL asked to speak to Fowler but nothing has been scheduled.
So, I suspect the Titans would be wary of adding any more problems.

Did Benson really have that great of a repoire with VY?
Vince only felt free to become Vince once Benson (and Williams) left. Benson was also (allegedly) pretty divisive in the locker room.
I am not convinced that VY would be that big of an advocate for signing Cedric.

Is anyone
.....sure he still wants to play? His work ethic has always been more than a little questionable. This won’t do a thing to help those who follow him in the league.

He might end up playing with...
the LIONS. They need more Running backs. I don’t think he would go to the Boys, unless Jones wants another Barber.
It would be hilarious if Tampa Bay released Simms, and the Lions picked up both Simms and Benson. Lions would be The University of Texas’ NFL team.

UT should hold out for a better team
But I agree that’s a logical destination for Benson though I think Millen will be too driven to prove that Stanton was a good pick to give Simms a fair shot at the job.

Cold, cold water should be just what he needed.
Obviously, Benson felt he was untouchable. Now he’s been touched and that should be quite sobering.
I sincerely doubt if the boating incident will ever go to trial; I think there will some problems concerning the LCRA Rangers. I can’t reveal why, but I suspect his defense attorney will dig deep into their history and find how they’ve overextended their mandate on several occasions. And if the searches were six times out of six trip is accurate, there’s going to be a lot of smoke.
However, I’d think the last one will stick. Fortunately there were no wrecks or injuries incurred, except for his career. Other than that, both he and the public were pretty lucky.
Come late October/November period, there will be clubs looking for a NFL caliber RB. One who has experience, no injuries and not a horrible record – there are so many that are worse – he’ll probably get a second chance. If Ced has any sense at all, he’ll recognize this for the second chance and for the redemption it is.
In the long run, this may be one of the best things to happen to him if it truly knocks the arrogance out of him and gets him away from that grinder called the Bears offensive line.
If he finesses this with words and lawyers, all bets are off: his career and future will probably be a repeat of his past and he will join that short (but growing list) of disgraced UT players.

PB, preview is posting automatically. WTF.
But it didn’t on this shorty-farty with no body, so I added body to see what would happen.

my two cents
1) What happens if Benson is found Not Guilty of one or both charges?? The Bears will look pretty stupid. Maybe Benson could sue them?!? What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? (Despite the fact that our legal system and public opinion pendulum’s have swung the other way.) Don’t get me wrong, I know it doesn’t look good for Benson esp. on the latest charge. Seems the Bears might have been trigger happy…......
2) .....because they drafted Matt Forte so quickly. Do you suppose the Bears were just looking for a reason to dump Benson?? The Bears were stupid in taking Forte so quickly – think about it…...the Bears need a QB and an O-line (part of the reason Benson under-performed last year).
hmmm…........

I agree
It would be hard for any running back to do well in Chicago. The team had a horrible O-Line and no passing game. Minnesota is similar, but they have a great O-Line.

My torts prof always said...
Sure you can sue, but under what theory? If you don’t have a case, you aren’t going to win.
Players are cut for doing things less egregious than what Benson did. Contracts in the NFL aren’t a guarantee that a player’s services are kept for the duration. Players can be, and often are, cut prior to the expiration of their current deal.
I am sure that if Benson were coming off a 1500 yd rushing season, the Bears wouldn’t be so quick to cut ties. Whether his fault or not (I agree with UTHorns assessment of the O-line in Chicago), Benson hasn’t exactly been productive.

Benson
I think he would fit in Denver. I think this upcoming season is pretty much screwed for him though.
I hope Jamaal Charles can act right in the NFL. Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson are really embarrassing UT in the NFL. I do think Ricky Williams is going to have a good year this year in Miami. Selvin Youg is representing UT pretty good though.

CFL?
It (kind of) worked for Ricky.
