Internet Libel is Serious Business
Basically some Austinite 'Braska fan made a fake Oklahoman page saying that Sam Bradford and Landry Jones (?) were involved in Matt Jones type activities.
The real newspaper with the fake sounding website (News? Okay! ...dot com) got to him first as he pulled it down, but the dad now wants legal action.
Im a little confused by the story I must admit. I can understand the Oklahoman asking to cease and desist using their template, but if people can start suing for crap that people make up and post on the internet on informal forums, well that would be bad.
For one, Elisha and Tara would be after me... what can I say, sex sells! But if anyone was fooled by dude's fake story, as they were too dumb to notice that the address bar did not read like an overenthusiastic periodical, is that really his fault?
Note: Elisha never wore that shirt, and Tara is not really 12' tall and sitting on my half wall, waiting for you to play Golden Tee. Please don't sue me ladies.

First off - I don't think your link works (I get no story)
Second, whether people could be fooled by the guy’s story is an issue that will be decided in court.

Bah
USA Today changed their link. Should be fixed.
To your second point, if you use the internet you should be aware of the address bar, and know what you are doing. Thats my opinion anyway. I suppose it will be settled in court since Kevin Jones “has deep pockets”. Have you never seen a fake news article? A fake google site? The Onion?
Im not saying its not a dick move to do what he did, but if you get fooled its your own fault, and apparently he took it down when asked to.

BiC, maybe you tell the 'Braska fan he can do what he wants
ir-regardless of what Landry’s father, Kevin Jones, thinks.

So Sue Me!
I personally find this story hilarious. What a great day to be a Longhorn. Matt Jones gets caught cutting up coke in his car while Land Thieves and Huskers snipe at each other all over the internet. I’ve been smiling since I woke up this morning. The only thing that could make my day better is if Mike Sherman got caught in flagrante delicto with that collie.
As for my opinion on internet libel check my signature. I challenge him or his inbred family to prove otherwise.

This kind of stuff even pisses me off more.
He didn’t use university equipment to post on the internet! Thank god!
Malicious internet postings usually are the result of predisposition of the hardware used. I’m glad to hear that UT wasn’t enabling a technologically savvy man from accessing the internet in such a manner.
If only there were a way to seperate him from all internet devices, we could have avoided this fiasco!
Seriously, its not like he was making nuclear bombs and wouldn’t be able to do it unless he was at JJ Pickle. Its the freaking internet. Right now, at my desk, I can hit up the internet in three different ways. Maybe Kevin Jones should find out if he used photoshop or IE and sue Adobe and Microsoft, I hear they have deep pockets as well.

What I find
odd is that there hasn’t been much mention of how liable or how responsible the radio stations are in this case for reporting a hoax as real.
I’m not necessarily talking about legalities, but shouldn’t these guys be getting pounded more than they are? Or is it too easy to blame the internet and let it go at that?

guess I needed a catchier title
BTW, this guy goes by DarthHusker on the NU bulletin boards, and has his own site, DarthHusker.com, which he apparently has taken down in shame.

I saw I got scooped
But we linked different articles, and I had commentary! So I left the post. Credit to Beergut for linking it first though. I heard it on the radio then sought out the article.

You can sue for anything
yes you could sue someone for anything you want to. You could sue someone for posting something here and trashing you. But, just because you can sue, doesn’t mean you’re going to win.
