Texas Fans
Okay, so I am actually a University of Michigan fan, but I like to follow Texas too, although honestly, no where as closely. But ever since I went to the Rose Bowl and watched one Mr. Vince Young shred my favorite team, I have had a lot of respect for Texas.
Now I can appreciate a great foe, but that is not where the respect comes from (although that game was an instant classic) . No, my respect comes from my interactions with the Texas fans as I walked what seemed like 100 miles back to my car after the game.
Now I have been to Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles and other cities to see Michigan and Detroit sports teams play. In every one of those places I have been harassed, threatened, I even had somebody pee on my car because it had Michigan plates(on the door handles, making if difficult to enter the car). However, after the Rose Bowl, every Texas fan I spoke to had nothing but great things to say to my friends and I about the game and our team. They were a group of people who were extremely happy to have won the game, and acted like winning was just part of that their tradition. They were the definition of class that night and made it so much easier to deal with the loss.
So not to sound like I or Michigan fans are the toast of college fandom, I have actually heard to the contrary from quite a few people, but you guys now have a Wolverine rooting for you (as long as you're not playing against Michigan)

Great post
I have always been kind of fond of Michigan as well. No particular reason.
This is quite the opposite of my post about most hated teams. And to me there is nothing worse then when Texas loses, its one of the worst feelings in the world, i am glad to see some fellow Texas fans show that respect.

Cool man
I think it is fun to see how fans of a rich tradition such as Texas and Michigan act after a win and a loss. I’m glad the fans there represented us well, and from my time here at Texas, I can say that although we might say some things, it’s all in good fun, and no one here is actually out to hurt someone emotionally or physically.
Just be careful if you play Texas Tech or OU. Those are some shaaaaaady fans. No doubt.
Peace Michigan dude, pleeeeeeeeeease beat Ohio State this year!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words
We are proud of the way we carry ourselves ‘round here. Of course, we have our share of bad apples, but as a whole our fanbase is more well-behaved and respectful than most (especially our in-state and conference opponents, Nebraska excluded).
I remember all the horror stories our fans shared after the game at the Shoe, and then all the nice things those State fans said about our fans after the game at DKR the next year. I guess we are just more willing to suck it up after a loss and give credit where it’s due on most occassions (although we will talk at no end about how we could have won).
Texas and Michigan are very much alike, and I think if you ask Texas fans what they think of Big Blue, they’d have nice things to say like you.

i have always wondered why i have a soft spot for michigan...
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

Michigan
is on my bad side because they are in the Big 10. I’m not a Big 10 fan, and I think they are overrated every year (the Big 10). I think this is more a dislike of Ohio State than anything.

I've never had a problem with Michigan
Other than a slight annoyance that they have performed well below their talent level the past few years.
For some reason, I’ve always preferred them over Ohio State.

Ditto
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.
Is it football season YET?

Continuing the Michigan lovefest
They’ve been a favorite team of mine since Charles Woodson’s absolutely unreal year in 1997. For whatever reason, I stayed a Michigan fan even after he left for the NFL.
Now a decade later, I can say from experience that there are few fan bases as enjoyable to be around at a sports bar, or in general for that matter. Michigan fans will adopt you as their own, cheer for your team, and give you a complete psychological breakdown of their love-hate relationship with Lloyd Carr at the drop of a hat.
Thanks for your kind words about Burnt Orange People. Go Blue.

I remember going to the Alamo Bowl..
.. when Michigan and Nebraska played each other. I rooted for Michigan, and was sick of hearing GO BIG RED!

Yeah, neither fanbase is overly creative with their cheer.
But both are light years ahead of “gig’em”.

Texas and Michigan
I’ve always felt we kind of had a similar fanbase too. Texas has one of the classiest group of fans that you can find and a great tradition stretching way back to the day. Michigan is pretty similar. And we both have to deal with trailerpark rivals (Oklahoma, Ohio State). I think there’s a bond there.
