Kansas vs Texas: CFN says....
Collegefootballnews.com has an article relating to the Big 12 North needing to win some games this year. They break down each team from the North detailing what their "Big Win" game would be and their "Must Win" game would be.

Here is the link: http://cfn.scout.com/2/767274.html ("Blog ... Big 12 North Must Win Games")
In a nutshell, this is a piece of what was written about Kansas: "The Texas game is also a big contest, but with the Longhorns traveling to Lawrence, the Hawks are sure to be favored in the matchup and should win."
Say what?!?!? Not only does this homer think Kansas is favored, but claims Kansas will win. Kansas will not win this game - our offense will score enough and Muschamp's defense will bring the smack down on KU.

I embrace it
For once we can be overachievers and prove all these media types wrong.

I can't wait to see the improved
Muschamp defense. I am interested to see how many turnovers they create, and compare it to 2007. I think we all love creating turnovers, and that chance at getting sudden impact points. Boom!
I also intrigued at seeing Akina back in his old position. I hope he takes charge with a “prove ‘em” wrong type attitude and gets his guys fired up.
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.
Is it football season YET?

I would like to think the skill level of the DBs
will all make a quantum leap now that they have Akina’s undivided attention.
I also wonder if KU has any pro-level talent to replace what they lost to the NFL. That was one of their edges last year, not an easy thing to replace with relatively unexperienced players.

Position coach of two Thorpe winners
Yes, Akina back as full-time DBs coach has me salivating, especially given the mayhem Muschamp’s pressure will create in the opposing backfield. Interceptions should go WAY up this season.
Living in SEC country, I’ve had a lot of opportunity to watch Muschamp work over the past six seasons. You’re going to like what you see. If the offense can sustain drives and keep them off the field, this defense is going to be incredible.
Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.

I can get excited about defense.
I’m getting a sense of unity about this whole team but it’s on D where it gets put into action.
So, thanks, beast, I’m really looking forward to seeing his D in action.

I honestly can't wait
for this season to start. I think there is intrigue in every facet of the upcoming year. This will be a year that we finally get to see how good/bad of a coach Mack and co. are. No VY to bail out the coaching staff with 2nd half heroics, but plenty of talent to take a big step forward. I hope we surprise all the ESPN pundits and doubters throughout the country and firmly supplant our brethren to the north as the Big 12’s unquestioned authority on football.

I think Kansas will come crashing down to terra firma this year
KU will lose 4-5 games.
The media needs to stop riding their collective jock.
Missouri is worthy of the hype; Kansas is not.

I wasn't that impressed with the Kansas games I watched
Which was the last two of the year.
And Todd Reesing getting every single play directly from Mangino right before the snap drives me nuts. Are these college kids or Pop-Warner? The big man has to read the defense for him?
Going 1 loss on the season is a great season no matter what, and credit to them, but I don’t see them doing that again. Their opponents for the season had a losing record last year, with adding Texas, Tech, and OU to the schedule, I doubt that will be the case this year.

Kansas, Kansas, Kansas.....
I don’t think I’ve seen the nation think so less of our football team after a 10-3 season.
Oh well, it’s a new feeling like owenh said.
Only 53 days, and 21 hours till our first game!!!!!
I bought my season tickets yesterday! I’m sooooooo pumped!!!

Kansas benefited from a patsy schedule
However, they do have a good opportunity this year to prove the doubters wrong, with games against Texas, Missouri, and OU. Win a couple those and finish strong elsewhere, and then we can start saying the Fat Man is turning things around. Until then, we’re still wondering.
by TheElusiveShadow on Jul 7, 2008 2:16 PM CDT 0 recs
I think he's already turning things around ...
... if you consider his starting point. That doesn’t mean they are or will be an elite program. I think Kansas under Mangino will perennially be a solid 8-4 type of team. I don’t think they’ll ever again have the kind of season they had last year, but I don’t think they’ll go back to the verge of not being bowl-eligible either as long as he’s there. There are a lot of things I dislike about the guy, but he’s a good football coach, and he’s accomplished a lot in a relatively short period of time.
What I think is absolutely ridiculous is the fact that Kansas is the second to last game of the regular season for Texas, and they are already saying Kansas will be favored and should win the game. What exactly is this prediction based on? Last year? A “near-miss in 2004?” Give me a break. It’s Kansas and Texas in mid-November, not Kansas and West Manhattan Community College on August 30. Don’t tell me who WILL be favored and who SHOULD win 4 months before the game is to be played. If I wanted a half-assed prediction, I’d go ask my sister who was going to win.
Another gem from that article was the part about Virginia Tech being “solid but not especially overwhelming.” Congratulations, you just described 95% of major Division I college football. How about a little research and insight, jackass?

except for 1997, that is
Unless you’ve erased that season from memory, when both Baylor and Okie State beat us. Remember the “opponents tear down the goalposts” tour??

Kansas will lose 3-4 games next year. The game on October 25 will be a battle of OVERRATED teams (KU and Tech), and KU wins. I think Kansas has a better defense. Kansas played one good team last year (Missouri). Virgina Tech was overrated and wasted a BCS spot. I actually thought Kansas was going to win by more than they did. The only way Kansas will beat Texas is if they have already lost 4-5 games going into the Texas game, and Texas gets big headed.
I really think people are over looking Texas this year. I understand J. Charles and Finley are gone, but c’mon we’re Texas. It’s going to be fun seeing how Texas plays not being big favors every game (I think they will play better). Crap like this annoys me, but I think its why we love football. The media tries to hype teams up that really don’t deserve it.

I think this is what we need
This is a blessing in disguise to be considered underdogs this year because it will hopefully light a fire underneath the team and especially the coaching staff.

1997
yes, you are correct. i blocked 1997 out of my mind.

TEXAS VS. KANSAS
I CAN WAIT TO SEE THIS GAME. KANSAS HAD A INPRESSIVE SEASON COMING HOME WITH A BCS WIN, BUT LETS SEE IF THEY CAN DO IT AGAIN. TEXAS IS ALWAYS A WINNING SEASON TEAM AND THEY ARE JUST GETTING BETTER SO I EXPECT A GAME FROM BOTH SIDES.
