Texas will start the 2008 season ranked in the Top 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Also of note:

Georgia rides the media love fest to No. 1;
OU checks in at #4;
MiZZOU at #7;
KU and Tech kick off the season at #13 and #14 respectively.

So, five of the top 14 teams in the country are from the Big 12, and none of them are Nebraska, CU,or A&M. The Big 12 has become incredibly deep, incredibly fast.

just right
10 is good, not too too high, not too low. But why is everyone on USC’s dick? #2? come on now…
USC:
Rivals: #1
USA Today: #2
Lindy’s: #2
Athlon: #4
Steele: #4

From a Texas fans perspective, USC seems to have too many questions to be a top 2! team. am i crazy? a homer?

Not crazy, but omitting the implications of a nigh-automatic conference championship

Who will challenge them? Oregon lost a ton of talent, UCLA has an absence of talent and an overrated coach, Neither Arizona team is a threat, nor is the Washington contingent. Cal may make some noise, but not enough to knock off USC.

From a prognosticators point of view, USC is a very safe pick, especially versus picking a team in the Big 12 or the SEC, which is almost certain to lose a game because of the quality of the rest of the field. USC may not have the second best team in the country, but they’ve got arguably the best odds of going undefeated in a BCS conference.

you win 6 consecutive conference titles

you earn a high pre-season ranking.

I think USC gets credit for their win in the Rose Bowl, b/c that is the last thing sportswriters remember. I think texas is getting credit for the same thing, though, so I don’t see how you can complain.

Until I see a secondary that can actually stop the pass, a running back who can move the chains, and SOMEONE who is a difference maker on offense who forces defensive coordinators to worry about stopping them, I think #10 is too high for texas.
