Bobino among the top ten best LBs in the Big 12
Well, Tim Griffin ranked the top linebackers in our conference, and Rashard Bobino made it at #10, and he was the only Longhorn to do so. The link is here at http://myespn.go.com/blogs/big12/0-1-181/The-Big-12-s-best-linebackers.html?post=true.
What do you guys think? Should we be proud of Bobino or should we mock yet another ESPN analysts for superficial analysis? I don't think Bobino is nearly as bad as many people said he was last year, but he did do so frustrating things. I guess it is hard to argue, because while Bobino has made his mistakes, we don't have as large a sample size to look at for the likes of Muck, Kindle, Norton, etc.
At the least, there was a brief mention of the great Derrick Johnson at the beginning of this article.
In any case, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that after this season, Texas linebackers will make headway into such lists. Please, Kindle... stay healthy. I think he has the potential to knock himself out as well as someone else on any given play.

I Go With - Mocking the ESPN Article
From what I see from Bobbino – he is more of a drag tackler that doesn’t make a ton of impact plays. On the blitz, he is worthless, as he seems to systematically find the blocker.

This is a good thing
Because by October, he might not even be playing as much as Norton in the MLB spot.
If Bobino is #10, then Kindle, Muck, and Norton are all in the top ten… thank you ESPN, for yet another worthless ranking…

Norton
It seems Norton is having problems in pass coverage.

I think dwelling on what
Bobino isn’t misses the point. When there was nobody else three seasons ago, Gene Chizik made him a starter—the lone full-season freshman starter on a team that didn’t lose very often. Hats off to an overachiever; I’d love to see so much talent in the younger LBers that he had to come off the bench but I’m more than comfortable inking his name into the starting lineup for 14 games this season.

hate to nitpick...
But its RASHAD. I think I’ve heard/seen it with the r more often than not, which must be frustrating for him. Kinda like how everyone outside the UT program says Quan Crosby. Everyone just likes to add r’s to our athletes’ names.

People misspell my first name all the time
I really love paying it back with Rashard Bobino, Chase Daniels, Jamal Charles, Tod Reesing, etc.

I had some extra stats laying around....
Can’t believe all three KSU LBs are on the list.
Someone should save this to excoriate Griffin later in the season. I think he’ll be lucky if half of those players are there by then.
While past performance may be an indicator of future performance on the field, it also shows opposing OCs who they need to avoid or come up schemes to block. And decent LBs on bad defenses get an inordinate amount of tackles. Doesn’t mean they’re great.
Revelation: what a bitch.

Kindle
will be the best by seasons end, IF he stays healthy.

if
Bobino is our best linebacker this year we’ll be in serious trouble.
I hate these superficial pre-season lists that demonstrate very little knowledge about players and programs, like last year when our “returning starters” at linebacker we’re going to anchor the defense, or the all-Big 12 lists that have 3 or 4 defensive ends on the D-Line because DT’s don’t have as many sacks (thus they must not be as good).

heres what happened
Basically this guy said “whos a senior….aha this Bobino guy fits the bill…” and the rest was history. Doubt any serious thought went into this.
