FAU Schnellenberger comments about Texas
Posting on the FAU student paper - Mack should put this up on the Texas board.
http://upsports.blogspot.com/2008/08/confidence-high-as-owls-prepare-for.html
As FAU prepares for its first real game since the New Orleans Bowl last Dec. 21, confidence is high that the Owls can go into Austin and give the Longhorns a tough game - not just on the scoreboard but in the trenches.
Coach Howard Schnellenberger is firm in his belief that the FAU defense, which often won the turnover battles last season, is even better and meaner in 2008.
Schnellenberger believes that a mean, tough defense can stifle a Texas offense that thrives on athleticism, not physicality. While it may be hard to fathom that a Sun Belt team is scheming to overpower a team from the BIG XII, that is the game plan Schnellenberger is sticking to - at least out loud.
"Once we step out on the field with Texas, the only ones who can help us is ourselves. Texas always has a very polished team that has great talent, but they aren’t tough, they aren’t a physically tough team."
FAU returns eight starters on defense, and Schnellenberger is counting on them as well as four experienced backups moving into starting roles to lay the wood on the Texas receivers.
"My defense will get to a point where they will be mean, nasty and ornery bastards and that’s what you need for Texas. Texas will move the ball with tit-for-tat, screens and options, but we’ll make them pay a price whenever they catch one of those dinky passes. We’ll put three hats on them and make them not want to get up, that’s the way to beat Texas."

Bold...
He better hope his team backs that up. While I think Texas fans are generally classy, we may not be so hospitable if we kick the crap out of them. He and his players will get an earful of jokes and sarcastic comments.
While I slightly concede his point about the “dinky” passes, he better prepare his players for our run-game and our athletic receivers, or the “dinky” stuff is going for a whole lot more.
While it’s pressure on him, though, it’s also pressure on us. We looked awful against Arkansas St. and were only marginally better against Central Florida last season, so it’s not a big surprise that such programs all of a sudden have hopes to pull Stanford and Appy St. crap on us. So I agree that Mack should use this as motivation for our players who undoubtedly will take exception for being called soft.

this reminds me...
..of the Holiday Bowl, and a certain team made their trash talking QB pay for it every play. I think this is good for the team because this will light a fire under their butts, and I think it’s consensus that this is what the Longhorns lack. I don’t expect an outcome similar to Arkie St., because now they have no reason to overlook their opponent. Thanks Howard.

The sad thing is...
He’s right, at least about the 2006 and 2007 Horns. Dinky short passes and option plays, no real smashmouth offense that takes advantage of our superior Offensive Linemen. I hope Davis & Applewhite read this as the constructive criticism they should take it as.

Absolutely.....
true. I’ve never questioned Coach Schnellenberg’s ability to dissect an opponent’s gameplan. He’s a smart son of a gun, knows football and is a true bear of a coach who inspires his defensive players. If he had a squad with the makeup of say….OU-Lite, then I’d be concerned about the game. With their talent, Schnellenberg would put some wobble in my knees. However, that’s not the case. Last season, they lost to Florida by 39 and lost to Kentucky by 28 points. Above referenced Oklahoma State whipped them 42-6.
This is just another of Mack’s SunBelt patsies paid to deliver one of his 10 wins. When we get into mile-high air, on Colorado’s homecoming, and face a Hawkin’s squad for the first time, that is when the season really starts.
--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---

HC is pointing to the tough start conference
but your point is well taken.
Never forget about the Hogs. They’re SEC. They’re thinking about us right now. They’re plotting right now. They think they can whip our asses right now. The Horns are their early motivation for this season, the whip they use to construct this team.

Thanks, Howard.
You’re a long way from Miami talent. A long way.
And this is not last year. You could have made hay if this was 2007, even 2006. But it ain’t.
What you did do is set up your offense to get beat to hell.
Boom Motherfucker time is gonna come early this year. Oh yeah.
Thanks, texascfo. This is great news. You can’t buy incitement like this.

KSU gameplan
This looks like KSU’s gameplan against us last year. We’ll see how it goes for them against our O-line and running game which I expect to blow their line off the LOS.
As far as dinky passes and the option, we did a lot of that in 2005 and I don’t think that was a weak offense. You can go tell Florida that their “athletic” and not physical offense in 2006 was weak and they’ll just point to their trophy case.

Howard
If we manage to run up the score on FAU, I really hope the offense will start chanting, “Hooooward, Hooooward!” the same way that the defense chanted “Ruuudy, Ruuudy!” in the Holiday Bowl.

Rudy will tell Schnellenberger to watch his mouth
if he ever comes out of his coma.
I like our speed. We’ve got the tools. I’d rather be working with this than a bunch of experienced guys who can’t play.

Schnellenberger's mouth
wrote a check that his ass can’t cash. Yes, I am paraphrasing Fred Durst.
Honestly, some his his remarks rang true but should probably not have seen daylight as they only serve to fire up the ‘Horns defense. I already expected Muschamp to light a fire under a sometimes-less-than-100%-effort-giving squad, but this should provide a healthy dose of oxygen.

Schnelly beating Texas?
I was at the Texas-Louisville game in Austin back in 1994 when Texas beat the Schnelly coached Cardinals. I was also at the Texas-OU game in 1995 when the Horns and the Schnelly coached Sooners played to a tie. When exactly did Schnelly beat Texas to know how to do so?

I'm thinking 1993...
to the tune of 41-10 at Louisville. Things have changed a bit since then. Howard’s gonna be lucky to only lose 41-10.

If he wanted us to not play physical...
Then he probably should have shut his mouth. Running that mouth pretty much gaurantees we’ll come out mad.

And maybe one of the changes this year
is that they will let the team be mad, be vengeful, be emotional in a good way, using it as leverage.
