Could Jordan Danks be returning?
Jordan Danks still hasn't signed with the White Sox and has until 11 PM on Friday to do so. Apparently Danks, a 7th round pick, is asking for close to 2nd round money.
According to his father, "I'm just not going to put Jordan on a bus because (the White Sox) throw out a number. We can send him to a first-class university with a first-class facility."
His return would be HUGE for a baseball team that we think should be back in Omaha in '09. Of course this could all just be posturing on the Danks' part, and the smart money would still be on Danks signing.

oops
I didn’t mean to post that already. My original post is here:

Another article on the situation is here:

It sounds like the senior John Danks is holding a Scott Boras-style line on this one, which is understandable considering the leverage that he possesses. Jordan can still return for his senior season. I speculated in my original post that it seemed more likely after the agent switch that Danks would sign because of the history of the White Sox with Boras (read: bad). As the Trib article mentions, similar draft picks in the seventh round were getting $600,00 bonuses. Since the White Sox knew Danks was going to be asking for second round money, it would be strange if they weren’t willing to offer him that or more. The White Sox have a weak farm system right now, with no outfielders who have the potential of Danks and few prospects in general (they traded three of their top seven prospects for Nick Swisher, including Ryan Sweeney, who is very similar to Danks). I expect the White Sox to make a strong push in the next 40-plus hours for Danks.

Agreed
We talk all the time how a junior baseball players’ only leverage is the threat to return for his senior season, and it seems like Danks is just playing his card publicly now. It seems unlikely that he’d come back to school, but it’s a nice dream.
