Vince Young To Have Jersey Retired At FAU Opener

It's official, per MB-TF: Vince Young will have his #10 jersey retired at the Longhorns' season opener against Florida Atlantic on August 30th, just as the 40AS boys predicted.

For his part, VY is humbled by the news:

"I'm really looking forward to getting back to Austin again, seeing everyone, reaching out to the community with my foundation event and cheering on my team," Young said. "I was speechless when they told me about the jersey retirement earlier this summer and I still don't think it's sunk in. It's such a great honor to be remembered in such a special way. Man, when I see that number and my name on the stadium ... I don't know what I'm going to do. It's just going to be such an unbelievable feeling for me and my family."

Fabulous

Couldn’t be any happier for the guy. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.

It doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as you come in first.

Wish it would be picked up by someone

instead of PPV as they’ve indicated.

Everyone in the state ought to be able to share in this.

Bad night

Apparently I do not know how to do the link. Anyway, I will not miss the opportunity to see this moment in Longhorn history.

Link help

One way to make links work that are very long or with funky characters is use tinyurl.com

I will now have a reason to stay somewhat sober, night games are hard to ration. We should set a goal of making DKR always as loud as it will be when they introduce VY.

In my 55 years on this planet

I’ve never thought a Longhorn deserved it more. Sux that its on PPV. Guess I’ll shell out the $$$$.

FSN re-aired the Arkansas State ganme last year the morning after. Hopefully, they will do it again this year.

Option

I bet there’s a sportsbar in your area that will have the show, along with some other fans and your favorite liquid refreshment.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.

Dont lie

you know you were going to shell out the money anyway.

Stuck in DC Question!

So, this is the first year that I’ve been out of Austin come football season, and VY Jersey will be retired in the first game in a 4 years that I’m not attending :(

I’m in Washington DC now, with comcast cable! My impression is: with ESPN college gameplan I will get all the games except the FAU game. I am also able to see the FAU game on PPV. Correct?

don't know

i noticed that it was on FSN Southwest’s PPV. does that mean that only people in the FSNSW region will be able to order it??

FSN

I think that it’s just Fox Sports PPV. I wouldn’t see why they wouldn’t want to limit their revenue by making it only available to FSN SW areas.

I live in oklahoma and ....

I cannot get any Texas PPV. It seems to only be on select Texas cable providers or DirectTV.

I am in DC

and I get it at my house, but I have direct TV.

I bet Rhodeside Grill in Arlington will show the game if you don’t want to get it at your house.

Need tickets?

I went searching for FAU tickets a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend due to Labor Day commitments, but eBay had some pretty decent prices for this game. There were quite a few seats in the new North End Zone. eBay definitely had better prices than your StubHubs, etc. of the world.

I’m not sure if there are tickets still available, but Texas Box Office was still selling official FAU tickets a week ago. The “Best Available” puts you in section 32, near the entrance for the players. You can’t hear the band worth crap there, but they’re still tickets.

Damn, I wish I could go. But it’s sports bar or Buffalo Wild Wings for me.

re: band

Word on the street right now is that the band will be in the north end zone beginning this season. I have no way of confirming this, and it could be BS; but if true, it’s about damn time. Everyone will finally be able to hear them, and at the same time. Now we won’t have such disjointed cheering.

Any idea when they'll do it?

Will it be before the game or at half time? I am just wondering how early to get to the game. I certainly don’t want to miss a thing.

They almost always do any type of presentation between quarters, I can guarantee it won’t be before the game, because the band comes in and then it’s gametime.

by ryanlionrah on Aug 15, 2008 11:34 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm hearing Howard Schnellenberger plans to

“get physical” with Vince before the game.

Just to show the defense how it is done, and show that the Owls aren’t afraid of texas.

by Beergut on Aug 15, 2008 8:37 PM CDT   0 recs

Pay-per-view

With all of the attention drawn to this game in the last week since Howard Shitburger’s “not physical” comments along with everyone at ESPN talking about FAU’s chances to upset Texas, is there any chance that this game will be picked up by Versus or some other network? I’ll be at the game, but I still want to DVR it.
