Sept. 13 Arkansas
Sept. 20 Rice
Sept. 27 OPEN DATE
Oct. 4 at Colorado

Oct. 18 Missouri
Oct. 25 Oklahoma State
Nov. 1 at Texas Tech
Nov. 8 Baylor
Nov. 15 at Kansas
Nov. 22 OPEN DATE

Interesting they have Tech 11-1 winning the South (only loss at OU) because OU would be 10-2 (losses at KSU and at OSU).  They have Missouri winning north with only loss at Texas.

Oh well, old dogs cannot post very well!

The yellow highlighted wins did not come through. My original posting spelled out losses at top though as CU, OU, Tech and Kansas.

I still think we will win at CU and at KU. Comes down to the OU game and Tech in Lubbock.

They basically picked us to win all of our home games.

We lose all away games but UTEP. I think we lost less than 10 true road games in the last 10 years suddenly jumping up and losing three in one season seems unlikely to me.

NO WAY IN HELL

Texas will lose to CU, KU, and Tech. NO WAY. Texas MIGHT lose to one of the three, but definitly not all three. I honestly think Texas will be able to move the ball on ou this year, and hopefully Muschamp finds away to stop the ou running game. Where do people come up with this crap?

crap?

i call it shit. excuse the language.

Schedule and rosters

They base our performance on who is returning, who we lost and compare that to who we are playing and their roster. Then they probably give an edge to home teams if they are “evenly” matched.

Plus, Tech is the sexy pick this year. It’ll just be funny watching ESPN reverese course when Tech loses their first big game.

evenly mathced?

CU, KU evenly matched to Texas? I don’t think so. I could see why somebody who doesn’t know a whole lot about football would pick KU,because of what their record was last year (not knowing they only played one quality team..and lossed). Texas Tech will be a close game, but Texas will be ready for that game. CU isn’t evenly matched in anything compared to Texas, except one Texas caliber RB.

Actually

I think we win all 3 of those road games. Just because OU lost at Colorado doesn’t mean we will. In fact, the recent OU losses there make it easier to get the team’s attention. A bye week before that game helps negate the home field advantage CU gets due to the altitude. Our depth on the offensive line will be needed there. Tech has a home field advantage because most teams get off the plane and think: “Well shit, nobody who could play anywhere else in the known universe would possibly sign with Tech.” Colt can explain to our team that there are some football players who are afraid of hills and trees and the color green. I still think KU has to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke. They have a very large good coach, but I foresee a step back for them this year.
Unfortunately, I think they may be wrong about the Mizzou game, as well. We’ll see. As one commentator said, if you are going to pick a team to regress from a breakout year, why not pick the one coached by Gary Pinkel? Good point.
Anyway, I boldly predict 10-2 going into the bowl game, setting us up nicely for 2009.

Bogus picks...

Doubt we loose to CU or Kansas and I bet we will figure out yet again how to beat Vince Gill and the Red Raiders. Surprised he didn’t pick us to loose to Missouri. It would be sweet to pick off OU, but early October will only tell.

Its not out of the realm of possibility

I mean 3 maybe 4 losses is not unthinkable. On the other side of the coin I refuse to believe 4 losses would ever come about! Talent edge should go to Texas, but unless you don’t pay attention to football, talent doesn’t win the game.

The offense should be good, but nothing is proven. We know what Colt brings to the table, o-line should be better. Receivers and backs are young and inexperienced.

Line up that offense agianst a team like Kansas. Talent mismatch! However, everyone will know what they’re doing, they have experience, they’ve done it before etc.

At this point the only game I think we shouldnt win on paper is OU (not saying we can’t). Everyone else on the schedule should be either at or below our level.

I am worried about Boulder to open conf. play, and Im worried about lubbock.

And we better beat little brother damn it!

On Mark Mangino...

“He’s the fattest dude I’ve ever seen in real life…..he looks like he would pop if he ate another burger.”—Ahmard Hall to me one day in class right around the Kansas game and one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard, especially considering the source…

8-4 sounds right

Assuming we play at last year’s level, 8-4 seems accurate. I think we’ll lose to OU. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we went 3-3 against Tech, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Aggy. Remember: Kansas State and Aggy both had our number last year. And OSU and Nebraska came too damn close. Perfect play against every crappy conference team is improbable. Finally, a pre-conference opponent could upset us as well. Remember UCF? They were ahead in the fourth quarter, and our final margin was just a field goal (35-32). Anything can happen.

That all depends, of course, on the stated assumption that “we play at last year’s level.” I.e., that the Holiday Bowl was an outlier rather than a fundamental change in how this team plays. There are good reasons to think the team will play better this year. But until I see results — more than just one game against ASU — I’m not going to plan for it.

And Nebraska and OSU...

were due to exceptional, last-minute performances by the fastest man in Texas. Let’s be evenhanded here. If we’re going to write off last year’s losses as flukes, we should also look critically at our wins. These atypical wins and losses average out overall.

by mikey 4 on Aug 19, 2008 9:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Theres no writing off a loss

There is realizing where the deficiency lied, and knowing what has been brought in to remedy it.

What do Louisiana Monroe, Baylor, and Texas have in common in college football?

If you were to answer, the only three teams that aTm put up over 500 yards of offense on, you would be right. Do we have the same caliber athletes as LAMO and Baylor?

One more question thats even more damning. In Steven McGee’s career, whats his highest passing total in a game?

Answer? 2007 Texas, with 362. In fact, hes only thrown over 300 one other time, and that was in 2006 against Louisana Tech, when he threw for 318. This is a career 177 yards per game QB, who last year ranked 84th in the nation in efficiency, right behind TCU’s true freshman, and he torched us.

Im not even going to talk about time of possession.

Maybe Im underselling McGee, but personally, I feel that the defense blew that game for us, and I dont see Muschamp letting that happen. We will have good and bad games, but we wont stoop that low again this year. It was, without question, abysmal.

by BoddickerIsClutch on Aug 19, 2008 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Fine. We added Muschamp, which should help us win games like Aggy ’07. But we subtracted Charles, without whom we likely would have lost several more. Time will tell if our changes result in a net gain.

aren’t you supposed to be rooting for the longhorns? have some faith in your team.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

I root for them. I want them to win every game. But I don’t conflate desires and predictions; they’re not the same thing.

by mikey 4 on Aug 20, 2008 9:23 AM CDT up reply actions

That’s a very good point. Prior to Nebraska and OSU, I was not a big fan of Jamaal Charles. And even now, I think we might have been better off overall using McGee. I’m more excited about tailback this year than last.

by mikey 4 on Aug 20, 2008 9:27 AM CDT up reply actions

It's more accurate to say

that he “didn’t win the OU game for us”.

The timing of his fumble was terrible; it cost us points but it did not put points on the board for OU. He didn’t give up 84 yard and 94 yard touchdown drives.

That we didn’t generate a turnover in the game (to the 2 OU generated) and had a hard time keeping Colt upright were more to blame than laying it all at the feet of a single player.

You don’t like that he had a fumbling problem, and I can respect that, but let’s not pin a loss solely on one player.

upgrades from last year

Texas has better LB’s, better def. coor., and an improved o-line. The receiving corps only lossed Nate Jones (Sweed was out most of the year anyway, and M. Williams should be an upgrade to N. Jones), Major should help Greg Davis add some wrinkles to the offense.

I don’t think there will be any fall off at RB or TE either (my opinion).

I can see 8-4

just dont know where those 4 are.

no way

last year was a down year, let’s face it. but this year early chemistry comes together thanks to Howard.
we are due to beat ou when they will be favored on a fluke play.
chase daniel will be on the sidelines on crutches by the time they get to austin.
we win the south and beat missouri again in the big 12 game.
texas vs university of spoiled children for the NC (georgia is dreaming going
undefeated with their schedule (BCS holds special meeting to keep tOSU out
of title game.)
our players are just too good to go 8-4 or 9-3. we have the best road record
in the big 12.
mack gets his title and the world off his back.
and just 11 days away, i can hardly sit still, God bless our longhorns!!
