A little help?
Hey, I'm a transplanted Michigan fan based in West Texas with the Air Force and was hoping to catch a Texas game while I'm here, specifically the opener against FAU. I was wondering where the best places are to tailgate, eat, and drink? Also, how difficult is it going to be to get tickets for this game? Bsically, If someone could write a quick guide to tailgating in Austin it'd be amazing. Any other help you'd like to throw me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Go Blue, Hook Em!

Scholtz's might be your best bet
Tickets should be really easy to come by. Hell, I think they might even still be available through texasboxoffice.com
As far as tailgating, most of the scene happens south of MLK in the state parking lots and then wraps around the stadium to the east. If Scholtz’s is your base, you’re right in the thick of it.
Wait, are you wanting to tailgate or wander around other people’s tailgates?

You will have no problem getting tickets from (what appear to be) individuals selling them near Scholz’s, or anywhere else near the stadium before game time. Plenty of fans do this on a regular basis with no problems, but it’s not risk-free, may be technically illegal, etc. Or, you can lock up tickets online before then from a more dependable source, at below-face value, at sites like Hornfans. There are also many commercial ticket sites listed on the left side of this blog’s home page.
Feel free to send me an email at the address in my profile if you need more help, and thanks for your service in the Air Force.
Enjoy the game!
