Volleyball in Omaha
Just a reminder that our Gregory Gazelles (UT Volleyball) will be in Omaha this weekend participating in the AVCA Showcase.

Both matches will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV). Friday night at 9:30 pm Texas will likely avenge last year's season ending loss to USC. Sunday at 12:30 Texas will have a smackdown with #2 ranked Stanford, the team that ended our 2006 season.

Arggh!
I didn’t get time to write a season preview for the Huskers.
Should be a great Big 12 season, we’ll see what happens between Nebraska and Texas this season.
This is one helluva tournament they’re playing in Omaha. Not like football where everybody starts out with patsies!
Go Big Red Nebraska!

Nice start to the season!
Texas starts their season in fitting fashion, avenging their season-ending loss to USC in the post-season last year with an easier-than-expected sweep of the Trojans in the AVCA. Games 1 and 3 could have gone either way, but Texas prevailed 27-25 and 30-28. The Gazelles had a much easier time in Game 2, winning 25-15. (NCAA rules have changed to match international competition as of this year, so games are only to 25 now.)
As expected, the Horns were led by Player of the Year candidate Juliann Faucette. Texas also had outstanding performances from two Horns filling huge gaps left by our departed seniors: Heather Kisner had a career-high 23 digs as our new Libero, and Michelle Kocher had 32 sets and 8 digs in our first match without Michelle Moriarty.
Texas now takes on the team that ended their season in 2006. #2 Stanford was shocked by #7 Nebraska in straight sets in the other match last night.
