Fourteen Deep?
Offensive coordinator Greg Davis said this year's bunch will feature as many as 14 guys who could see action. Remember, it's usually a luxury if a line can go seven deep.
Comments are from the 8 keys to success story in the Statesman. From PB's depth chart, we've got 10 identified. Who are these other four guys?
RT Kyle Hix Aundre McGaskey
RG Cedric Dockery Britt Mitchell
C Chris Hall Buck Burnette
LG Charlie Tanner Michael Huey
LT Adam Ulatoski Tray Allen
Steve Moore? True Freshman Mark Buchanan? True Freshman Luke Poehlmann? True Freshman David Snow?
Are these guys really ready to hit the field?

I call shenanigans on GD.
There are only two ways the line rotates that many players this year, a serious injury problem or several players who don’t step up enough to win a starting job. Either case won’t be a luxury, it will be an unmitigated disaster.
But, there’s nothing wrong with motivating each lineman to fight for a spot on the depth chart. It’s quite a nice change of pace.

I would suspect this is a move for depth next year
and maybe one in a worst-case scenario this season. I read that and wondered if this indicates a serious overall move to get considerably more players on the field. The early season hype has been restrained compared to earlier years.
Two deep would be 10 players. Those third stringers probably wouldn’t get much playing time except for the ooc games. But 10 would be a great improvement over last year when the effective number was only 7 or 8, even less when injuries struck.
Maybe GD suddenly realizes he has a lot of offensive weaponry if he can get it deployed. With a weak or unstable OL he can’t do much to expand the attack. So, this definitely would be on his wish list.

nothing but
coachspeak on that 14. Deep snapper and center Greg Smith would be one that’s not listed.
ANYBODY could get playing time, including walkons. One of the incoming frosh (Snow, most likely) could get on the field.
Mack’s rotation generally goes to 7, and hopefully, 8. McGaskey could make it 9. And, based on the 4 OL commitments due to arrive next summer, I’d look for a couple of the current group to follow Kinne, Snead, Chris Brown, etc., and look for greener pastures elsewhere.

14 DEEP
SNOW, POEHLMANN AND BUCHANAN WILL REDSHIRT THIS YEAR, UNLESS INJURIES DEVASTATE DEPTH.
LAST YEAR WAS AN EXCEPTION TO HAVE THREE TRUE FROSH PLAY ON THE OL.
