Open Game Thread: Second Half--Florida Atlantic vs Texas

Fau_at_texas_helmets_medium

Texas leads Florida Atlantic 28-10 at the half, thanks to two timely turnovers by the defense and a masterful first half from Colt McCoy. Though there have been problems, and the young have made their mistakes, overall the half has to be considered a big success.

Players who impressed in the first half

Blake Gideon
Colt McCoy
Vondrell McGee
Chris Ogbonnaya
Blaine Irby
Greg Davis

So far, it's been the Colt McCoy show

I wanted to see what Chiles could do at WR/RB but didn’t see much. Hopefully he can give us some excitement in the 2nd half.

Thoughts...

Colt – Could not have played better. Literally perfect.
Irby – Exciting. Gives me a lot more confidence in our chances on 3rd down.
McGee – Solid, tough runner. Still want to see him against better athletes though.
Receivers – No one stood out, good or bad.
Defense – Ate up the run, lots of loose coverage, missed tackles. With FAU’s scheme, we’re not gonna get many sacks. I’m thinking we’ll see more man coverage, since they are getting rid of the ball so fast.

Crush'em

It’d be nice if we could crush’em by midway in Q4 and experiment with personnel and plays afterwards.
GD seems to be forgetting the running game.

Hook'em

You tend to do that

when your QB has not missed on a pass yet.

I think they have been experimenting since the game began.

Agree about the running game, but I think that was as much about intimidation as game plan.

Zone

Does it look like they are trying get the d experience in zone coverage???

by Longhorny on Aug 30, 2008 8:07 PM CDT   0 recs

We've mixed it up

The interception in the end zone was a ginormous zone drop that led to the tipped ball.

Guys

This ain’t no party… this ain’t no disco… this ain’t no Arkie State Game. I love the O, the D is now in “maturing” mode. These boys in the secondary are gonna get schooled, glad it’s happening against FAU and not OU.

Sounds like a nice mix of plays.

You know, if GD is indeed freed, he’s gotta adjust, also.

I can’t believe I’m saying that.

by arthurball on Aug 30, 2008 8:19 PM CDT   0 recs

thanks

I’ve got the game on but it’s muted so I can listen to the horns and a dome for those two teams just didn’t make any sense.

Hate to say it

Mizzou is dominating. Pinkel’s made some stupid decisions thus far. Chase has been lights out. 7-6 Mizzou at the end of the 1st.

wow

that’s really surprising. Clemson was supposed to be pretty darn good. Saban may be an asshole but he’s a damn good coach.

Amazing

I am listening to the radio and hearing linebackers’ names. But, not for missed tackles. Wow.
