Devon Kennard (Rivals #2 HS player) interested in Texas?
According to rivals.com (link), Devon Kennard drove 6 hours each way from Phoenix last week to see Texas play UTEP. As the #2 player in the country, that he would choose to drive on his own to see Texas play says something about his interest here, no? It would be great to have him here, watch some of his highlight videos and you'll agree...
He's 6'4", 257 lbs, and watching his videos you get the sense that he's probably the fastest player on the field (actually runs a 4.7 forty, but has great speed for his size). I know Mack's got his 2009 class basically locked up, but come on lets sell Texas to this guy...

Mack is waiting for his call
We only want him if he wants to play for Texas. Driving 12 hours roundtrip is a good start, but Mack will need to see his #34 Texas replica jersey, 3 references that can attest that Kennard has been a mypoic Horns fanboy since birth, and a blood sample.

And that blood sample
Must reveal much more than just trace amounts of chicken fried steak, or he just might as well enroll at USC right now. Tex-Mex measurements alone won’t do it, seeing as he’s from Arizona. We need to see a high gravy count before taking this one seriously.

huh?
Do you even know what you are talking about? Mack is hard after this guy, that’s why you see him take the visit.
In Mack Brown We Trust!
what?
“We only want him if he wants to play for Texas” is maybe the least informative statement ever. I understand what you’re saying, but if he didn’t want to play for Texas, our opinion would be immaterial. And if our new standard is that all recruits have to have replica jerseys, 3 references to the player’s myopic fanhood, then maybe we wouldn’t get any recruits at all.
If this guy can spell Texas and wants to play here, I’ll go pick him up myself.

Gentlemen
A little lighthearted sarcasm never hurt anyone, did it? If young Mr. Kennard wants to commit to Texas, that’s fine by me. OK? Happy now?
But please forgive me for remembering similar scenarios involving Darrell Scott, Ryan Perrilloux, and that quarterback from Florida (whose name escapes me). Those memories leave me skeptical and, oh yeah, sarcastic about out of state uber-prospects who don’t exactly bleed burnt orange.

Kennard and Irby
Kennard’s and Irby’s families have known eachother for a while are apparently pretty tight. This is part of the reason that Texas is making such a push for an out of state recruit.
Irby and "D Scott"
apparently had a connection too…and we know what happened then

I see an explanation is in order.
1) sometimes people say things that aren’t literally true to highlight extreme viewpoints held by others
2) sometimes people say things that were espoused by other people to highlight how ridiculous those things are
*hope this helps*

If only the viewpoints you mocked were ridiculous. Scott recruited Texas before Texas began recruiting him. Kennard too had a strong interest in Texas before we began recruiting him.
Mack has stated in the past that he believes that OOS recruits are only worth pursuing if they have a strong interest in Texas to begin with. That’s an unfortunate attitude. Texas should be recruiting the hell out of a select handful of elite OOS prospects each year, no matter how they feel about UT. You make them love you.

This is my philosophy too
Texas is such a nationally recognized brand that we’re able to garner immediate name recognition from everywhere in the country. The BCS Championship certainly helps that. I wish we would put ourselves in position to recruit 5 * prospects outside of Texas.

Andy, I agree wholeheartedly...
Texas should be recruiting the hell out of a select handful of elite OOS prospects each year, no matter how they feel about UT.
I’m a Mack homer 99% of the time, but his “we only want players that want Texas” attitude sux. Note to Mack: 17-18 kids don’t know what they want, you TELL them what they want. Don’t drink that coffee, Mack. Coffee is for closers.
RECRUITS: Jordan Leslie (Tomball TX Tomball); Jaime Peebles (Klein TX Klein).
He still gets an official visit to Austin too, right?
Should he choose to take it?
Yes, he gets an official visit.
Let’s get over the fact that some OOS recruits have turned us down or reneged on a verbal commitment. The point is that Mack is selectively pursuing the creme de la creme; sure, most will go elsewhere, but we’ll score some too. We can compete with anyone. BTW, from what I’ve read, Kennard has a legitimate interest and it’s far from a long shot that we’ll secure his commitment.
I'll never forget ol' what's-his-name.
won't...
hold my breath either given the track record here of landing/persuing outta-stater’s and recent comments from mr. brown.
It would...
…..help if Mack started showing up in some livingrooms again. We miss Brewster. He knew how to sign the marquee recruits.

He is in my sig
I think we have a really good shot at landing him. You dont drive 6 hours right after a football game for nothing!
