USF vs Kansas - Who are you rooting for ?

I know that I really should be rooting for Kansas, in terms of helping the 'horns strength of schedule, the competitiveness of the Big 12, and all that.  But I really hate those guys ! (And their coach, too!) It really irked me how they got so much love last year, without playing anybody of significance.   I would really love seeing them get exposed on national TV tonight.

Am I the only one that's torn here ?

Jayhawks

For me it is an easy call.
Kansas Jayhawks – Blue – YAAYY
USF Bulls – Green w/ Gold Helmets – YECHH

The Jayhawks are humble over-achievers.
The Bulls are arrogant front-running Miami wannabes who stole our hand signal.

Besides, nobody gets more undeserved love from the media than USF gets. USF’s schedule is WAY worse than Kansas’ schedule. The Bulls almost never play anybody really good. Kansas has to play a BIG XII schedule that would leave the Bulls quivering in a sobbing pile of green and gold goo. The love they get from the media goes so far as to make us think that playing Rutgers is a tough game. The only team they have played that has been anywhere near good has been West Virginia.

I never bought

Kansas as anything like No. 7 in the country last year. Maybe 17.

My prediction this year is 7-5, maybe 6-6. KU did not play UT, OU or Tech (I may be wrong on this one) last year. That’s 2-3 losses in 2008; Colorado or K-State will be a third loss. USF could be No. 4. And I’m guessing somebody throws an upset in there as the losses mount.

That said, gotta root for the Big 12 in any intersectional matchup; no gain if the Big East or Pac-10 beats one of our teams.

uh....

I dont know who i will be rooting for until the game starts. I usually find myself pulling for someone depending on what happens in the first 5 minutes on the field. I am excited to watch it tho!

Kansas is good

Give the keys to a creative and quick offense to heady kid like Reesing and watch it score. USF can’t get them off the field and it will show in the late 3rd quarter.

Longhorn fans get ready for shootout in Lawrence.

Is it me or do Reesing's passes float?

His passes seem to sit in the air awhile. Not a lot of zip on the ball. KU’s running game is terrible. Mangino is smart to give Reesing the keys to the offense, but eventually the lack of a decent RB will catch up to them. Also, KU has looked awful in pass coverage and very slow at LB. In my opinion, they are not a very good team tonight.

Whoops

Talk about a tale of 2 halves. We should score 45 points on KU.

Best game of the year so far...

…and it’s not even close. Awesome, awesome game.

I really tried...

to root for Kansas. Frustrating…they were not good. They didn’t consider playing any defense.

Your irrational hatred

was it also based on KU not being good? Or just their easy schedule?

Texas is my team, and I’ve got some homerism for KU having grown up in Lawrence. Still, surely I wasn’t the only one happy that we didn’t have to play them last year? I watched games like KSU, NU where they played them right after we did and looked a heck of a lot better.

And I don’t think much of the ACC but “without playing anybody of significance”? They beat Va. Tech.

Not having a running game this year is killing them and will continue to do so unless Crawford steps up or Reesing is perfect. I didn’t think Brandon McAnderson would be that big of a loss. (Side note: I played football a grade below his brother, Devin, in middle school and his brother’s nickname was Mighty Mouse—he was tiny.)

I don't know if it is irrational hatred...

I think it started with Mangino’s whining to the press after the last time the horns beat them. (2004 ?) And I would have loved to see us play them last year. I like the way the Pac-10 is set up, where they play the whole league every year instead of having a North-South championship game.

I have a little twang of hate

Spring up every time Reesing checks to the sideline before running the play.

I’m not sure why, its not like I really care if the QB reads the D or the Coach does, or I guess I do, because its like a little drop of hate on my brain every sideline check. By the end of the game, I’m just drenched in hate for KU.

I only watched first half and first two drives of the second half

the whole USF team looks like they’ve never seen a wight room. Just a lotta lithe, quick guys. In the first half, those quick guys didn’t tackle well.

I guess they tackled a little better in the second half.

I came awa unimpressed by both teams. Game reminded me of watching a game between two MAC teams; two mid-major programs who don’t play much defense.

KU misses their DC from last season.

How 'bout Baylor?!

They took Wazzou behind the woodshed last nght, winning 45-17. Robert Griffin ran for 217 yards and 2 tds on only 11 (ELEVEN!) carries, while passing for 127 and one td. RB Jay Finley ran for 119 yards on 10 carries and a td. Nice to see Baylor beat a BCS conference team, although WSU is a little on the pitiful side this season (66-3 loss to Cal last week).

We’ll better see how real Baylor is next week when they travel to UConn and play a Friday game on natioanl tv.

Heh, heh. The voice of doom.

When Big 12 teams realize that if they stop Griffin, they stop Baylor, that particular reality will be replayed.

by whills on Sep 13, 2008 12:29 PM CDT up reply actions

i don't know....

Kirby Freeman started and played most of that game at QB. And he is terrible. I don’t think Baylor would have won that game if Griffin had played the whole thing, but they wouldn’t have lost by 28 either. They’re a different team with Griffin in there.
