understanding the nation
What I want to know is why John Chiles hasn't got any criticism for the way he played. If Colt would have played badly we would have been all over him for his performance . I think the Longhorn fan base needs realize that not every player is Vince Young and we aren't going to go to a BCS bowl game every year. We have been one of the most successful teams in college football this decade. We are the only team to win ten wins every season.I understand that most people in the Longhorn fan based are very passionate and think that if we don't win the national championship every year the season was a failure. So for the future be thankful for what we have. Because it seems like everyone in the longhorn fan base thinks that Colt Mccoy is nothing compared to Vince Young. And for all this hype about John Chiles it was a mistake.

Sorry.
I’m not quite following what you are asking or your thought process.
Perhaps the most recognizable mascot in sports, and certainly the toughest looking, Bevo is a fixture

I think you should add another answer on the poll
Several forms will do, but I’d vote for, “Eh?”
If you’re saying that Colt is better than Chiles, then I agree. If you’re saying Vince is better than Colt, I agree. If you’re saying Mack Brown has done a good job at Texas, I agree. If you’re saying it’s unreasonable to expect a national title every year, I agree. However, if you’re saying we should not criticize both players and coaches for their mistakes, then I disagree. But I’m not exactly sure what you’re getting at.

Huh?
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.

You did a great job
the other night, Colt. I think a lot of people here were being critical of Chiles’ deficiencies at QB. There’s no need to be so defensive…you had a great game. You are not VY, but no one else is or ever will be. Just go out there and do your best.
Good luck the rest of this season!
P.S. I would use a less obvious handle if I was you.

He didn’t praise God for leading them to victory.

Perspective
If it will make you feel better, I’ll be happy to dump on Chiles. But that hardly seems necessary. The point is that the starting QB is held to a higher standard than the backup and VY has raised the bar. If McCoy had played like Chiles he would have deserved some harsh criticism. (And the same would have gone for Young.)
As to the matter of thankfulness, yes, I am thankful we have fielded another contending team and shown signs of improvement in areas where we need it most. The Horns are going to be fun to watch, and that’s what really matters to me.

I’m trying to remember the last time John Chiles did something that impressed me.
Anyone? Anyone?
I really hope he does grow into his role this season. There’s a lot of talent that he’s supposed to have, but it hasn’t really materialized in games yet. I didn’t get to watch the FAU game, as I’m stuck here in Maryland these days, but I’d sure appreciate it if anyone could provide any info about anything Chiles did Saturday that was all that impressive. I’d like to believe. I’ll definitely be watching the UTEP game this weekend…over, and over, and over.

how about
that bullet touchdown to Kirkendoll right into the heart of the safeties?

Best part of that TD
Was Kirkendoll pointing at the end zone crowd after the TD. That got me on the James Tiberius Kirkendoll bandwagon but fast.

Chiles
was pretty good in the bowl game last year.
Last week he actually completed passes, which adds something new.
Being in Maryland is no excuse for missing the game.

You're right, of course...
…I should’ve flown to Austin. See, this is why I’m moving back to “flyover country” (either CenTex or south-central KS) once I’m done with the doctorate. I don’t mind driving for hours to watch a game, but dealing with the TSA idiots at the airport twice in two days per game? I’d be on pace for a shotgun rampage every Monday morning at work.
I keep wishing the ’Horns would come play here around the mid-Atlantic states. I happen to think Maryland or PSU would make a great home-away series, or maybe Pitt or Temple could be a home-away-home series…
Anyone know if there’s a good way to watch a full video of the FAU game? I’m all about combing the frames, so much so that I’m ignoring Saturday night’s promise of copious amounts of great poonanny to stay at home with the remains of a keg of amber microbrew, a rack of slow-smoked beef ribs, and the ’Horns game. Watching it live is worth it.

That question is unfair, given that he’s only played one game in the last 8 months. He’s a damn impressive player. In reverse chronological order, I was impressed when he:
- Completed 4/5 passes (FAU)
- Threw a touchdown pass (FAU)
- Scored a running touchdown against a bowl opponent as a true freshman (Arizona State)
- Averaged 6 ypc over nine carries just halfway through his true freshman year (Iowa State)
- Averaged 8 ypc over nine carries in the fourth game of his true freshman year (Rice)
He’s a true sophomore! Don’t expect him to play like a junior or senior.
