PB....
Will you have some commentary on our TE situation this week. Were left with non downfield recievers like Ullman, Smith, and Howard. How close is Ian Harris to being back? It looks as if Josh Marshall is done for the year also (he’s wearing street clothes and had a sling on Saturday. His facebook status read “The worst thing about getting injured is you get to see how quickly you get forgotten”).

Yeah
I had another weekend lost to traveling for job interviews, a process which has sapped all my time the last two Saturdays.
I’ll jump in on the TE situation this week.

BIG LOSS
Irby is by far the best TE on the team. The injury (dislocated kneee) sounds better than it originally looked, so hopefully he’ll be back next year.

DIslocated Knee?
I’m no doctor, but is it possible to dislocate a knee without tearing any ligaments? It seems to me that the knee is so rigid you would have to tear something to dislocate it, but If he was able to escape without any torn ligaments, it would be a better situation than it first appeared. Anyone know?

ESPN says he will have surgery.
I read a couple of medical sources – IANAD – which said ligament damages generally occurs with a dislocated knee, often both ACL and MCL and even nerve and blood vessel damage. Here’s one.

unfortunately, its a devastating career-threatening injury
“The bones of your calf (the tibia and fibula) get moved compared to the bone of your thigh (femur). The bones of your knee are held together by strong bands of tissue, called ligaments. For a knee dislocation to happen, these bands have to tear.”

From the looks of it in the video, the knee did not “reduce” (go back in place) immediately. If it had popped, then popped right back, I’d be optimistic. Unfortunately it was diplaced so badly it just stuck. That probably means worse tear(s). in addition you have to factor in any tendon damage done, which is just as crucial.

Fine young man
In the article he is already pumping up the other members of the squad, saying that “they won’t miss a beat”. He doesn’t even feel sorry for himself, he is just ready to help the team any way he can

Im happy for the fact
1 , he seems to be a very upbeat young guy with a ton of potential. He also is a very team oriented guy from his comments about the team.
2. I may just be greedy here, but I’m also glad that he can get a medical redshirt. Im sure it means alot to him to know that he won’t miss a year of eligibility because of this injury.

I've had...
…this injury, tore MCL, ACL, LM, my lower leg was swinging freely when I got up. I guess you could dislocate a knee without tearing any ligaments, but it would be a kind of freak thing. I now have some screws, and a patelar tendon where my ACL used to be. Irby will probably be on crutches for a couple of months and then he should be able to play next year, but that knee will never be the same. Doctors have told me that my reconstructed knee is actually stronger than the uninjured one. Less flexibility and movement, but none the less, stronger. If he does come back, is there another position he might fill? One where getting chopped at the knees isn’t as likely?
...and ou still sucks.
