Good news: Colt McCoy is the best quarterback and apparently the best running back on the team. Once the national media realizes this, he will get serious Heisman consideration (and we don't have to go undefeated either for this to happen). McCoy is truly the MVP of this team.
Bad news: Colt McCoy is the best quarterback and apparently the best running back on the team. If he goes down, WE ARE DOOOOOMED! Many props to the offensive line for allowing Colt do his thing, BUT...
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like John Chiles will emerge as a competent QB anytime soon. We continue to play Colt when the game has already been decided, preventing Chiles/Harris from getting more reps going back to last year. It also looks like Sherrod Harris isn't in our plans for whatever reason. He can't possibly be any worse than Chiles, can he?
Sorry to be the Debbie Downer, but I can't help but think about 2006, when Colt suffered his stinger against K-State. That single handedly lost us the game, and I think it was the difference between winning and losing in the following A&M game as well. Cost us at least a BCS game. There's no doubt McCoy has gotten a lot stronger and durable, but you can't prevent the freak injuries. You just never know... look what happened to Oregon last year.
A lot of fans (including myself) are really excited about this team's immediate future, and justifiably so, but if Colt goes down again..... see above image.
But look at the bright side! Maybe this year would've been a wasted season if he goes down, but at least next year we have Gilbert to take over if the unthinkable happens again.
