Proud

My wife & I were proud to be 2 of the 98,053. It’s like a different stadium now. Of course we set in good seats for once, which really helped our perspective.

Irby impresses. I like McGee but Cody Johnson was immediately noticeable. I was a bit concerned with no sacks, but Schnellenberger prides himself on pass protection – he is an accomplished coach.

Zero Sacks

…and this doesn’t bother anyone?

Oops...

Actually it looks like HalfmileHorn is concerned, too…

We talked about this some already...

I think we decided that Schnelley did a great job sticking to quick stuff to avoid the pass rush and avoid getting Rusty killed. Pressure was there, and sacks were there, Rusty just got rid of the ball quickly. We’ll get sacks against teams like CU with less experienced QB’s, and against Mizzou when Daniel holds the ball for a week and tries to scramble around. They’re coming.

The great debate of FAU

Funny how there seems to be a huge discrepancy on alot of Longhorn boards/blogs. Even the mods. on Orangebloods differ on this.

is Irby the next Gates or Winslow

7 receptions? Pretty sick for a tight end… I don’t care if it’s not exciting, stick with the short stuff

Irby

Gates or Winslow? How about the next David Thomas!

Time of game...

I beg to differ on your time of game stat, PB. This opener was 3 hours and 23 minutes. Someone needs to fix that on the MB-TF box.

Makes more sense

And ruins my number. Damn.

Ignorance is bliss.

I thought something was wrong with that too.

A couple of times in the first half, I remarked to my wife that this has got to be one of the longest halfs we’ve seen at DKR.

I'll never forget ol' what's-his-name.

Speaking of Irby...

I don’t know about yall, but I’m feeling tremendously optimistic about this team’s goal-line TD potential. With Cody Johnson’s (we desperately need a bad ass nickname for this kid) power, Chris OB’s quick feet, and Blaine Irby’s Dave Thomas-like hands, I feel like they should convert more GL possessions into TDs than either season since VY left.

this is scary

I thought of the same thing, CoJo, then peeked down and saw your post.

Let’s let a guy play more than one game before we get in the nickname business. Same with Blaine Irby — I love that he can be part of the passing game, but is he really more of an impact player than Finley? Well, on the blocking side, he probably is, and I see that as a big plus regardless of Irby’s impact as a receiver.

Agreed about holding off

Melton looked like an unstoppable beast in his first game.

Irby is clearly a far better blocker than Finley, and this was even true last year when Irby was just a true freshman. He’s a better route runner already, and he looks to have a better feel for finding the soft spots in zone coverage. Toss in that he’s a comparable athlete to Finley, and I think he may end up breaking a lot of school records for tight ends.

Slow down there budy

when Irby gets 150+ yards and a touchdown against OU, then we can start comparing the two, as it is Finley is in the pros and Irby just had his first game as a starter.
