Garrett Gilbert? He's for real...!
Anyone else catch Lake Travis v. Westlake Thursday night on FSN...? If so, you had a great opportunity to see The Next One Who Wears #7...what a hoss! This guy is the real deal...great arm and great feet, but above all, great poise. Chris Simms talent with a VY / CMc will to win. As great a HS QB as he is now, he'll really come on strong once he hits The University.

Giblert AND Paden Kelly
I was at the game last night and had a great time. Loved seeing GG live. He certainly has the physical ability to succeed, and I was quite surprised by the number of qb draws they called. He ran pretty well all things considered.
There were several throws he made which weren’t great. Saw some receivers have to really slow down or stop mid-stride to get a pass, but that’ll go with time. Best thing I saw was his work under pressure. I think it was on a 95 yd. drive that Westlake brought a lot of pressure, and each time he responded extremely well. Either hitting a man down field, dumping off to a TE or simply getting rid of the ball.
He played smart and efficiently, killing them with patience in the pocket. I remember one time the pocket was collapsing around him, but he kept going through his checks and then stepped into the pocket to make a big completion. I love a patient QB that doesn’t force it, and he rarely did.
Also present was his left tackle who is a commit to UT, Paden Kelly. Only 3 stars on rivals (4 on scout), but looked good nonetheless. Dominated any one-on-one work he had to do. I’m glad he’s coming with Gilbert to Texas. Hook ’em!

And yes, "Giblert" in the subject line was a typo. n.t.

Interesting point
concerning Paden Kelly . . . he may be the fourth-best regarded of the four OL currently committed. The young man from the Lubbock area, Mason Wolters, looks like a perfect tackle and the lineman from Odessa Permian is very highly regarded.
I worry that bringing in a haul like this, with 6-7 sophomores and two playing freshmen (McGaskey and Snow) plus two redshirts, overloads the OL a bit. That can mean thin spots in other areas.
The major target area this winter HAS to be defensive line, and five commitments already lined up there as coaches continue to hope for good news from Kennard (Arizona DE) and McFarland (Lufkin DT).
