Rose Bowl GameDay Thread
Might as well have one.
I think USC has the edge on paper, but I'm going to pick Penn State to tough out a win. Points will be hard to come by against this USC defense, though.
While this bowl season hasn't been terribly interesting thus far, as other posters have noted, this at least looks like a good matchup. While I'm not going for any team, I really hope that, at the least, the Nittany Lions don't get obliterated so we're spared all the "USC is the best team in the country" talk that has become traditional at the end of virtually every year from the USC media-lovers.
I'm not too concerned on what this means to the conferences; I happen to think looking blandly at bowl games is a bit short-sighted. It's not like the entire Pac-10 is going to play the entire Big-10 in the bowl season.

Why does Herbstreit feel that he has to end every sentence he says
with “For this offense.” “Royster with a three yard run to the left for this offense.” One after the other….

Penn State’s punching them in the mouth, and a couple of their boys are putting some good moves on the USC defense.

I picked the condoms
with a confidence level 29. Purely analytical.
Penalties have been killing Penn St, with a fumble recovery and long pass completion called back in the first quarter. They are moving the ball now though.
I would enjoy seeing the Nittany JoePas win this one.

I’m really tired of USC getting a January home game every year. Why doesn’t the Rose Bowl tie-in just say they’re USC vs. Big Ten #1?
And I really think the Cotton Bowl dropped the ball on not muscling into the BCS for next season. The Big 12 and Big Ten are the only two conferences without any teams anywhere near a potential BCS championship game site.

I think with the move to the new Cowboy stadium
The BCS will find it difficult to deny giving the Cotton Bowl a BCS game.

The BCS extended its agreement, so it’ll be no earlier than 2014 unless the current deal goes south.

They're doing some serious Pac10 loving
Because apparently we’re supposed to believe that their conference is now on par with the best since they beat Miami, Pitt, BYU, Penn St. and Oklahoma St.

They will be good next year
But Robinson threw some huge picks that game, one when they were about to score a touchdown. You can’t do that and expect to win. Then the Cowboy defense didn’t decide to show up in the second half.

FYI
Tim Griffin says Robinson dislocated his shoulder in the second quarter. Not to mention Dez Bryant playing on one knee. Those injuries kinda popped Okie St’s bubble when they were up 17-3.
And that Massoli kid, geez i hate hose kind of QBs. Short and horrible passers but burn you on the ground and think they’re the second coming of Peyton Manning.
But at the same time Okie St just could not stop the run at all.

This is about to get really out of hand...
Fair or not, if Penn State gets blown out the Big 10 will suffer another huge blow that will cripple it in future national title discussions.

That already happened
When LSU put their marbles on OSU’s chin last year and the Buckeyes laid an egg vs USC this year as a kicker.
I’m impressed with Sanchez tonight. Strong arm and great decision making.
Speaking of kickers, it’s time for some Dominos.

I know it already happened
That’s why I said “another.” Penn State was the Big 10’s hope this year to reverse the trend. Not looking good right now. Not exactly fair, but they can blame Ohio State for that.
And… Ohio State isn’t going to help the Big 10 this year either :).

Hey, Penn State is not so bad
considering their head coach is watching the game on TV at his nursing home, and calling in the plays from there.

Apparently, JoePa hasn't spoken to his team
Neither before the game or during halftime. I know he said he’s trying to avoid having all the attention on him, but come on. Your troops need your leadership. I think he’ll look back on those decisions with regret. Coaching and motivation happen to matter quite a bit in college football.

No question they are very good
I think they belong in any playoff scenario. Penn State, on the other hand? The Big 11 is really lucky they didn’t get into the MNC. The BCS might have had to kick them out in favor of another conference. Would be interesting to see what they could do if they had a head coach.

Well what ive seen from this game is simple
USC just has the talent edge in every phase. Are they number one? I still don’t think so. The linebackers dont look that fast. Mauluga isn’t this speed demon I keep hearing about. The receivers are bulky and slow except for Damion Williams (very impressive). Sanchez has impressed me. He’s pretty mobile and has NFL level arm strength. Numbers aside though, he’s not hugely accurate.
Penn St does not look “slow”. This is not Jarvis Moss coming off the edge and pancaking Troy Smith. This is Penn St being outplayed and outcoached straight up. Darrell Clark is a nice player. He has a big arm but he’s not very polished at all.
This game is looking like a blow out. I think if Penn St played better game it’d be more like a 14 point loss. They just got some bad breaks and are playing a good team in their (almost) homefield.

Musberger:
“You know there is still the AP and they don’t have to vote OU or UF number one. You betcha the Trojans would want a piece of the winner of that game. Down the stretch of the season no one’s playing at the level we are witnessing here..”

Anyone wonder
Why in the world Penn St. kicked a field goal? Seriously, don’t be wimpy. Go for it. It was freakin’ fourth and 3 and you were close to USC’s goalline. Then they failed to kick an onside kick afterwards.
Thanks for playing like wimps and just trying to make the scoring margin less. It’s not like it’s the last game of the season or anything…
