Thoughts on the Titans' loss (or, PB rules)
Watching the Titans this year, particularly yesterday in their predictable loss to the Ravens, I found myself less than overwhelmed with Kerry Collins. Serviceable, yes. Good enough to carry the team in a big game? I didn't think so earlier, and yesterday seemed to bear that out. I don't think Kerry had a bad game, so much as he didn't have the weapons to win this one. Once Chris Johnson went to the sidelines, Tennessee just had nothing to beat the Ravens' defense.
Watching the second half, I kept thinking that someone had predicted this, and had offered a solution. Oh yeah, our own PB. http://www.burntorangenation.com/2008/12/21/698862/kerry-collins-vs-vince-you

yeah..
On 4th and 5, I was hoping that they had some gadget play where they would put VY in b/c we know he could convert at LEAST that play..lol

Nice reminder, LiC.
They do need VY – and they need a Jeremy Maclin or Crabtree. That D will get you into the playoffs, those weapons will get you much farther. You don’t even have to use them that much during the regular season.
NFL playoff defenses will eat ordinary offenses for lunch.
Fisher has some explaining to do.
He has a SB quality defense, and he didn’t get a whiff of the big time.

Totally not Fisher's fault
They dominated that game. However, untimely injuries and turnovers did them in. Plain and simple. They did everything they needed to win that game except for protect the ball and put points on the board. Those two things cost them the game, in conjunction with Chris Johnson going down. This is a Titans team that can play with anyone, but would play everyone close. They aren’t going to blow any teams out, especially in the playoffs. However, their one gamebreaker on O went down at the half, and that was pretty much game.
With all that said, if nothing else, you would think they could find a way to get VY involved in a Wildcat type formation or something. He does add a dynamic that this team sorely needed- big play ability. Here’s hoping they can get a gamebreaking WR in the draft this year. It’s still their most glaring need, to me.

I find myself agreeing with almost everything you say
I would switch the first two words of your title to Not totally Fisher’s fault, as I agree with PB that he is somewhat to blame. As you point out, a Wildcat like formation that Vince is in for just a few plays a game could add a lot.
The other thing that falls somewhat on the coaching staff is White’s fumble. How can a pro be allowed to carry the ball in that sloppy a manner? Remember, the Ravens got to this game by forcing turnovers against a team that had been good at protecting the ball in the regular season. The fault is the player’s, but the coaches have to take some of the blame, as well.

The one unforgivable thing Fisher did
was kick the field goal on 4th and less than a yard. When he did that, I knew the Titans would probably lose, and rightly so, because it was a decision that did not live up to the expectations of a veteran NFL coach.
His thinking was erroneous. He was thinking, quite superficially, that the field goal was a higher-percentage play, than picking up a yard against a good defense. But that was the wrong way to view the situation. Instead of calculating the probability of converting one play vs the other, he should have been thinking about which choice gave his team the higher probability to win the game.
By attempting the field goal, you potentially tie the game and give the ball back to Baltimore with 4 minutes left. The absolute BEST you can hope for is overtime. So, in order now, to win the game you will have to overcome the following:
1) successfully executing the kick (bad snap / Baltimore could block it / the kicker could miss the attempt),
2) Baltimore’s attempt to get a game winning-field goal on the ensuing possession,
3) the coin flip for overtime, and
4) getting a game-winning score in overtime.
Or you can ask your #1 seeded team to gain a half yard. To me, there were too many things that had to break right for the Titans by choosing to kick the field goal. The probability of converting on 4th and a foot is far greater than overcoming all of those other things, even if the field goal, alone, is a higher percentage play than the 4th down conversion, alone.
The football gods always punish extreme stupidity with a loss, and Fisher totally screwed the pooch with that call.

No wonder
Moose(former Cowboys’ TE) has kept yelling that was wrong at least 3 times. That call was wrong. He totally disagreed with Fisher’s decision.

uh..
wasn’t that on CBS? Moose does games on FOX.

I guess yall forget that Kerry Collins would have won that game
if not for two fumbles inside the 20.

Dude, Titans was the better team, and Collins was OK. They just got unlucky and lost …

#3 offense in the entire NFL.
That doesn’t suck, my friend. Defense is suspect, no doubt, but you cannot doubt the prowess of the offense, and to do so is a logical fallacy of the greatest kind. Nice argument, though. Nietzsche, Derrida and jacques lacan would be doubly proud!

Turnovers
When you play the conservative “not to lose” game, turnovers are going to kill you.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.

lollol
PLaying not to lose huh?
Collins threw the ball 42 times Saturday.
He averages about 27 passes per game.
by Blitzburgh on Jan 12, 2009 3:08 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
and
they werent trailing basically the entire game, meaning he wasnt just throwing because the team was in a hole.
by Blitzburgh on Jan 12, 2009 3:08 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
He had to pass because Johnson was out
And I was referring to the coaching moves, not the playcalling

I think the pendulum swung a bit too far
For Titans fans. They turned on Vince rather quick, considering he lost his starting job due to injury and the stories that came after were ridiculously overblown.
However, while Collins did not play stellar and he’s not a fantastic QB, he played well enough to win that one. He didn’t make the mistakes that lost it for them. In hindsight, I’m sure everyone wonders what Vince could have done to help, but if Crumpler and White hold on to the ball, they’re okay. Of course, they may NOT have beaten the Steelers like that, but they did do so in the regular season because they beat Big Ben to a pulp.
Vince’s chance will come this offseason to really study the game and improve. If he doesn’t win the starting job, that’s on him.

VY needs to overcome his emotional issues before anyone puts him in an NFL game.

So
I apologize for my rhetoric being over the top, and i am accused of being bitter? Why would I be bitter, is there any way for you to tell me, since that would involve a little more than a 1 liner?

Generally,
those who actually possess the ability to implement a cogent application of historically scrutinized, philosophical logic (as opposed to mere unsubstantiated citation) refrain from undermining their own authority with the use of such common colloquialisms as “my bad.”
