Kennard Denies USC Commitment... Decision Coming Soon (kinda)
Inside Texas put up a great new article on their website. The best part of it is that it is FREE. Devon Kennard apparently likes the "Buck" position that Brian Orakpo is playing righ t now. He has in in houe visit from both Carroll and Tedford coming up.
Click here for the complete article.
It seems like the Devon Kennard oppurtunity is still a very realistic one for Texas. What is everyone else thinking?

I was wondering if Kennard would show up
to the Fiesta bowl preparations…I was right, allthough it must have been kind of awkward for him to not talk to the coaches at all..
It would be nice to get one of these out of state prospects
You have to think a couple of things would help:
1) A nice convincing victory in the Fiesta.
2) A great performance by the defense.
Assuming it’s a USC/Texas conversation, we lose out on the close to home angle and most likely the friends/family angle.
The fact that USC’s defense is ridiculously sick this year doesn’t help things. The perception that Texas doesn’t have a great defense is helped by Muschamp and in this case, Orakpo.
It is good that he is friends with Irby.
These always seem to go against us recently and it still appears to be a bit of a longshot, but it sure would be nice.
hmm I am going to have to disagree with you
on “ridiculously sick” USC defense. Their defense did not impress me too much yesterday. It was decent at best. Our 2005 D was way better.
I really hope we get this guy, but I think Charles Scott was also good friends with Irby. FYI

Darrell Scott... and yes he was
and I’m a Texas homer but the 2005 Defense was good but not comparable to USC’s D this year. They were giving up 7.8 pts/game and 206 ypg before yesterday. That Texas defense gave up about 16 points a game and 300 yards.
I know their competition wasn’t great this year, but giving up 8 points a game is unheard of no matter who you play and they have NFL talent everywhere.
hmm did you happen to catch OSU-Pitt game?
Oregon State is pretty bad and beat USC this year. Sure, Rodgers brothers didn’t play, but they managed to score only 3 points.
USC also played an Ohio State team that had Boeckmann as the starting QB.
To borrow Coach Boom’s words, stats are for losers and I highly doubt this year’s USC D can stop VY & Co. in 2005

Yeap...
a fair amount of freshman and 2nd stringers back there in that game.
I would love to see that UT offense with VY against this USC defense fully matured…now that would great game!
useless argument...
PSU Smoked Ore.St who beat us and we smoked PSU.
We could probably say the same thing about UT losing to TT who lost to OU who were beat by T
Team A beating Team B does not always = C its a circular argument that has no meaning…it happens its college football.
Kind of like
post hoc ergo propter hoc? (for the lawyers and law schoolers)
I agree, that kind of argument doesn’t hold a lot of weight.
Garrett Gilbert: 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Darrell Scott/Irby
I never heard they were friends, but I think it was more that they both went to St. Bonaventure.
Garrett Gilbert: 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
They didn't go to St. Bonaventure at the same time. Scott tranfered to SB the year after Irby left.

maybe not "ridiculously sick" but still pretty damn good
AS for yesterday this comment from one of my readers sums it up pretty good.
I pretty pleased with how they performed this season…
What are the chances
Carroll shows up and wants to “talk” during the Fiesta Bowl? Hopefully Kennard’s got a ticket to the game.
I wouldn't be surprised
If Kennard is waiting to commit face to face w/ carroll in his in-home. I know nothing about it and I could be wrong, but that’s what “decision is coming real soon” sounds like to me.
why?
Why do you say that? with performance of our DEs this year, we can hold our own against the ‘mighty’ USC.
Stats are for losers...
Who cares what happened the last few years in recruiting. We werent top 10 preseason last year anyway. Now, we are at the top for next year with a lot more potential for the next few years beyond that.

We were #4 preseason in both polls last year
It’s not about stats it’s about precedent. I’d love for him to be at Texas obviously but I just don’t see it happening.
Sorry, Im OCD like this....
Preseason AP had us at #11 and USA Today had us at #10, Source ESPN. Anyway, I just think we have a much better chance this year than years past. I see what your saying, but I think the circumstances are much different.

Last year?
Since 2008 ain’t over I assumed last year was 2007. We’ve had great years in the past with different circumstances but the same result as far as out of state prospects committing late are concerned. I hope you’re right though.
Absolutely....
…NONE….since Brewster left UT. He was the true specialist in that arena.
Kennard is 100% USC-bound. He spent all of his time with USC recruits at the U.S. Army game.
