Three Redshirt Freshman Don't Travel To Arizona ($)
Defensive tackle Jarvis Humphrey, wide receiver DJ Monroe, and linebacker Dravannti Johnson are not in Arizona with the football team in preparation for the Fiesta Bowl. No real news on why Humphrey and Johnson didn't make the trip, but information coming from the program indicates that Monroe had a poor semester academically and will not be with the team next season ($), which means the Longhorns will take three receivers in 2010 instead of two.

I’m confused. I thought Monroe was a DB?
Hopefully the other two will be coming back. You hate to see kids lose the opportunity to get a good, free education AND play for one of the best universities in the country. As a fan, I also hate to see talent lost.

He switched to WR this year, iirc
Man, that sucks. He was one of the top recruits in that class. I was really looking forward to seeing him on the field.

Here’s hoping he takes the spring semester seriously, elects to take classes this summer, and stays with the program.

Out of curiosity
Has any player ever kicked off the team gone this route and played?

On this team? No idea. We had a guy on my team who did it, and there have been others in the NCAA who have. Andy Katzenmoyer did it, in fact.

Oh, and I think a sex-ed course and golf were among the summer electives he took, too.

institutional integrity
You hate to lose the talent but I’m glad we have a program that doesn’t pass these kids along if/when they don’t take care of business in the class room.
didn’t monroe actually only just barely qualify in the first place? i somewhat remember he and hales coming down to the wire with hales ultimately coming up short.

What's the deal with Hales then?
Is he coming in at semester or what? Sorry for the stupidity, but didn’t even know about that one…

correction
sorry – i typed hales but I meant Hicks…
Hales, as far as I know, is doing just well and I’m hoping he’s a big contributor next year.
