Here it comes...
Setting: San Diego, California
Outcome: A noffense oriented BIG12 south team guns to an early lead, only to be flat out pistol whipped by an "ok" Oregon team. Oklahoma State plays its injured players (Bryant, Robinson, Hunter) and (not surprisingly) shows no inkling of defense. I suppose the Cowboy players were saying "Sorry, didn't mean to touch you" as the Ducks raced by them over and over. FAIL!
Setting: Dallas, Texas
Outcome: Another offense oriented BIG12 south team guns to an early lead, only to be embarrassed and out-physicalled. Harrell was chucking ducks over a hobbled Crabtree's head all game long. Meanwhile an "improved" Red-Raider defense got bullied around. Jevan Snead became Eli Manning and that Darren McFadden wannabe became a superstar tailback. FAIL!
Setting: Glendale Arizona!!!
Are we next?
Muschamp you better stop this trend. Remind all the players they have to be ready!
...
But seriously here, big let down. The BIG 12 North is 3-0 in bowl games against some suspect compettion and now some of our conferences flagship teams in the south (0-2 btw) have been pantsed. Queue Mark May, Lou Holthss, etc "Oh my god told you so BIG 12 defense sucks Big 12 overrated, SEC!"
Sorry at this point there's no way to counter the argument about the big 12 defenses. The only thing to hold on to is that OSU and TTU dont have TEXAS/OU level talent on defense. Year in and year out there is a ceiling on these teams ability on D. If Texas and OU have similar trouble there's gonna be backlash on a BIG 10 scale.
Still I hope OU loses.

The SEC is now 5-1, with Utah beating ‘Bama and the NCG still to go. I briefly reconsidered my conclusion that it’d be great to see OU get destroyed (even if by an SEC team), but then I noticed that it’s 2009, and OU still sucks.

Think with Tech....
there was a letdown due to the fact they thought they deserved more than the Cotton Bowl?
Also, that TTU Quarterback sneak on 4th and 4 IMHO was a huge swing. I knew the game was over right then. That was just bad coaching.

Leach is not even an average HC.
He makes zero adjustments during the game or from what I can tell, not even at halftime. Take our game, until the final play we held that vaunted offense to 3 points. The UT staff makes adjustments, takes away your bread and butter and makes you play UT’s game. Leach thinks the are so good they can simply keep running the same thing over and over. Reminds me of watching my son play football on the PS3 against the CPU. He runs the same plays over and over and wins handily, then gets upset when I beat him after not having played for months at a time. Difference is he’s twelve and can hit RESET, Leach,on the other hand, is in a BCS conference and pissing away millions in revenue for all involved.
Why does TTU even consider an extension?

I don’t know. I, for one, don’t want him anymore. I’m tired of this sort of thing…at LEAST one, typically two ass whippings every dang season. And always, ALWAYS at the worst time. Shoot, were it not for the complete incompetence of Glen Mason and Al Groh at the end of our last two bowl games, this would be our third epic fail in a row in the post season.
I heard that Meyers wrote the extension in disapearing ink…will fade 8 seconds after the bowl game. One can only hope.

I have to share this with you.
I emailed my tech buddy today after the game. Very bright woman, she has a PhD in audiology from Tech. She usually keeps up with football, goes to the occasional game.
She felt none of the pain today, for a very good reason.
I have to confess, I didn’t have a clue we were playing today. Honestly, after our last ass whooping, I stopped paying attention.
Damn, that’s cold. But people get tired of getting built up and always being knocked down.

LOL
Tech, my brother. This is sad loyalty. Do I need to dig up your previous comments of adulation towards Leach during the good times?
Only Big 12 coach without a losing record since the conference formed. All sorts of school records and firsts this year, and Crabtree’s personna and dominance surely will bring more and more good recruits to Lubbock.
Now you want him gone. Hahahaha. So lame.
You want Spike Dykes back!!! By all means! Sheesh, pathetic.

I agree.
To the original commenter, his conclusion only works if he keeps his sample size to two games. Our last two bowl victories included two of the biggest comebacks in bowl history, but I guess Leach is incapable of making halftime adjustments whatever whatever whatever.
I haven’t the foggiest idea who Tech92 thinks we should have besides Leach or why he thinks we’ll be better off without.

We held the offense to three points in the second half until the the final play. The other 7 came on the pick six by the LB.

Looks like Bama is next in line....
May not be a BIg 12 highly powered offensive team but they sure are blowing this one

Utah 31, Bama 17
Today was filled with irony. Tech got slammed, with another stupid decision paving the way (fourth and four), not unlike the OU game. Then Utah just whips the hell out of the Tide.
It will be an interesting final vote.

You just know Utah will get a 1st place vote or 2

Yes, they will. And they deserve it for 13-0. nt

I agree
and I really think the MWC is better than the Big East and at least in the conversation with the ACC and Big Ten. If Cincinnati had gone 13-0 I don’t think there’d be any question about them being national champs. Utah played in the more difficult conference and didn’t lose a game. I’ll be curious if they’ll be any momentum to put them at #1 in the AP.

with the way this bowl season has gone
we better watch out…… If we aren’t on our A game, we will get slammed.
Time for a playoff.

No joke
This is stuff Mack will be delighted to use in his many talks of being “consistently good” and whatnot.

Both the Tech and Utah games raised the hair on the back of my neck.
This, too, can happen to you. Fate stalks the unwary.

After watching the game
Utah is just better than Alabama. Period. There’s no bringing your A game issue there.
by DoubleB on Jan 2, 2009 11:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
To be fair
They were missing their left tackle, which showed to the tune of eight sacks, and I believe they had a couple injuries. Not to take anything away from Utah, but it’s worth mentioning.
by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 2, 2009 11:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
That certainly didn't help,
but look at the stats. This game wasn’t close at all. Much of the pressure was from delayed blitzes from LBs up the middle. I really think Utah wins this game 6 or 7 times out of 10 on a neutral field no matter who’s out there for Bama (something I didn’t believe about Boise’s Fiesta victory 2 years ago, which while not fluky, didn’t feel dominant).

The one constant in bowl season
is the FAIL of the Big Ten (6-15 in last 21). Yeah, Texas has to show up. You always do in bowl season because it’s not like Florida Atlantic is the opponent. Provided they do, I don’t think this one is close.
by DoubleB on Jan 2, 2009 11:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree
If we show up and play like we’re capable of, this should be a comfortable victory. However, these bowl games go to show that being on paper doesn’t automatically mean you play better on the field. If we don’t come out ready, Ohio State can certainly beat us or otherwise make this a lot closer than it should be.

TT and OSU
TT only plays good at home, and OSU is THE most overrated team in the country.
The Big 12 is top heavy just like every other country in the nation. The Big 12 happens to have two power houses while others only have one (usc, ohio state). The Big 12 and SEC have two dominating teams in TEXAS and ou and Floida and LSU.
Texas will win, but ou will lose AGAIN and Bob Stoopid will be headed to Denver!

Couple of problems.....
1st – LSU was not CLOSE to dominant this season….It was Florida and Alabama…… and Bama just lost to Utah. And that was his point. But maybe you mean perennially?
2nd – The Big 12 was deeper than 2 teams. If you watched Tech or Okie State play much this season and you picked Oregon and Ole Miss to win, then you saw something I didn’t see (although Ole Miss was the hot upset pick). But I agree that we only had 2 really dominating teams.
3rd – OSU was the 2nd best team in the Big 10 this year (Penn State was the best) so they can’t really be the “one” dominating team in that conference, unless again you mean perennially.
4th – There is only one country in this nation…..

Hopefully Mack doesn’t have Chris Jessie on the sideline for this game.

hell why not?
It seemed to all work out for us pretty well last year. I agree that play sucked for our defense, but all and all it worked out…….

i’d feel ok with him on the sidelines with his hands tied behind his back.
by Displaced Longhorn on Jan 3, 2009 1:34 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
no problem...
just as long as he stays behind the sideline… and I have a feeling he will never venture out on the field again until he hears multiple whistles…
by Pflash on Jan 3, 2009 11:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I guess it wouldn’t be that bad I just look at this team as being the same caliber as between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and you saw how close those wins were 10 and 4
