Dronett Found Dead
I just saw in the Statesman that Shane Dronett was found dead in his Atlanta home. He was 38 years old. Man, this guy was a monster... Played on the late 80's early 90's McWilliams era Horns. Gabriel has blown his horn, my friend. Hook 'em, Gator!!
Check out Dronett in this YouTube vid (1990 Houston game) at the 1:53 mark he knocks Klingler on his Run & Shoot ASS!!
Hook Em Horns!!

Shane Dronett
is one of the first Longhorns that I can remember having seen.

GREAT ATHLETE
He once batted the ball from his end position, caught it, and then ran about 70 yards for a touchdown, although the refs called it back.
Being a 6-6, 270 pound end with quickness, he was nearly unstoppable.
He might have been the first Longhorn to turn pro early, leaving after his Jr. season in 1991.

suicide?
Losing football, something that dominated his life for decades may have gotten to him. The lifestyle change is probably dramatic

He had been having some medical problems....
….a benign brain tumor from what I read. I’m in Beaumont and he was from a small town just east of here, Bridge City. Very, very sad situation – I’m not sure what, if any, his medical problems or medications may have played but it’s a great loss and must be extremely tough on his wife and children.

Of course it's tough on his wife and daughters
but leave it to Texaggy.com to make it even tougher. Why let a sip leave this world in peace, after an obvious struggle, when you can trash him and his name anonymously on the interwebs! After all, as long as you do it with “Thoughts and Prayers”, it’s still classy, right?
Shane Dronett was a very dirty player, fined for an illegal hit on Kordell Stewart and also broke the jaw of one of his teammates in Atlanta (he was sued on assualt and battery charges) … His family is in my prayers. – Jock 97
Nice of you to consider the family there, Jock Itch 97.
