Bomar's Dad: Stoops not innocent
New article out today by The Sporting News about Bomar's situation. The third column, top paragraph has some interesting quotes from Bomar's Dad about his incident while at Oklahoma.
"He and I both know that Oklahoma got off light and he didn't," Jerry Bomar said Wednesday. "They're not innocent in this deal.....Bob Stoops comes across as 'Mr. I Did the Right Thing' and there's stuff about Bob Stoops that if right now I told people, everybody would be saying 'What?'"

One thing I can promise you,
No one here would be saying “What?”
The only thing better....
would be if he said that they were getting paid for their silence.

Rhett
He’s from the same hometown i’m from Grand Prairie!! The story is sad, but it’s another example of why these great players from Texas should not turn their back on there own state and go to BlowU!!! Just stay here and play with guys you grew up with have a great experience in Austin and win plenty of games!! Play in the National title or a big BCS game and win them!! Instead of going to that Crap school up North and going to National Title games and showing your arce in front of the whole nation!! 0-5 in BCS games!! HaHAHA
Just one more time
silky51, I apologize in advance for the hijack, but I’m having trouble concentrating on Stoops and Big Red Sports & Imports with this playing over and over in the back of my mind:
And we don’t have any D-men playing in the Senior Bowl this weekend, so this is it. Wait, maybe they’ll put Cosby in on D for some Puddin’ Pops!
I thought..
Palmer played at the Shrine game w/ Miller already?

I’m surprised about this. You’d think at least ONE out of Orakpo, Melton, and Miller would be there. Anyone know why they aren’t?

I heard Orakpo was saving himself for NFL scouting day.
Correction: Palmer is in the East West Shrine Game and so is Roy Miller. I heard Palmer had a pretty good showing as a good cover corner.

ATX
I got my original info
about Cosby being the lone invite in the Senior Bowl here.
Melton, Bobino and Oggy will play in the Texas vs The Nation Challenge at the Sun Bowl.
Hook ’em.
Wish this story had more legs
I never understood how Stoops was able to get completely away from criticism by whacking Bomar and the OL (Dunn?) while there were scores of OU players on the payroll of the car dealership. I find it unlikely that this was a private deal between the players and the car dealership, and much more likely that this was an OU program “fringe benefit” orchestrated through some level of OU athletic department.
Still – I would really encourage the Bomars to admit that they did something wrong, and show more accountability than the portrayal of Rhett as a “scapegoat”. In addition to the payola, Rhett showed many other signs of immaturity and poor leadership that were probably equally damaging to his OU career.
That OL was JD Quinn out of Garland, TX

". . . there’s stuff about Bob Stoops that if right now I told people, everybody would be saying ‘What?’ "
Gee. You think?
If Houston or UTEP or Clemson had done this stuff, they’d still be in the NCAA’s jailhouse.
Don't Be So Coy
Come on, Mr. Bomar! Tell it all! Tell it all, brother!
Not that it would really matter. As I recall, peeps have come out of the woodwork talking about their roles in how Reggie Bush and his family were paid off, and the NCAA flat out ignored them for fear of having to do anything that might reduce revenue or make bowl sponsors uncomfortable.
I completely agree
Why, I guess expo facto statement will only be view as inflammatory statements, but I don’t even care if there isn’t any action taken on the issue. I just want everyone to know what a dirty piece of crap program OU is. There is an old saying once a skunk has been put in the barn it is impossible to get out. Even though nothing happened with the Reggie Bush incident I think everyone would agree that USC is viewed differently. I am not sure that you can get OU to smell any worse, but it wouldn’t hurt to try.
Bomar got screwed.
I feel bad for Bomar. He made a mistake, but he shouldn’t have been the scape goat. What nobody mentions was that Adrian Peterson was driving, at that time, a sick Lexus and not going to class. All he got was being benched for a series against UCLA. Tell me how a guy from Palestine, Texas from a lower middle class family can afford a $40,000+ car?
SHOW ME YOUR LIGHTNING BOLT!!!!!!!!!!
well
Tell me how a guy from Palestine, Texas from a lower middle class family can afford a $40,000+ car?
Drug money.
I don't really care what Bomar's dad says
I don’t think Stoops is an angel, but it’s not like Bomar and his father have the most credibility.

Interesting quote from Bomar dad in Ft. Worth Star Telegram article
Jerry Bomar on son’s exile from Norman.
“I don’t know that we’ll ever be over it totally because of what he missed out on,” said Bomar’s father, Jerry, who coached his son at Grand Prairie High School. “It was very devastating because everything was going just as we had planned.”
The we is very telling.
